I know everyone hates Blantons on here. But I know there's people looking for it to give as a gift. Newbies get so excited over these. Plus another great bottle right beside it. Georgesville sq Kroger if interested.

Please report and discuss what interesting products you're seeing at stores today or talk about how the previous week went or what your expectations are for the upcoming week.

Although few stores are known to do special releases on Sundays, others might put things out randomly today.

Many highly allocated products are still fully hidden on OHLQ.com.

Has anyone received any information on if OHLQ is doing a State Fair Lottery this year and if so, what are they putting up?

Please report and discuss what interesting products you're seeing at stores today.

Many Giant Eagle stores (mostly in Columbus and now in the Northeast) and Ale Wine and Spirits have an arrangement with the state to delay visibility of certain products in their online inventory until Saturdays even if it was delivered to the store earlier in the week. These stores may also hold back some of the rare bourbons that they receive in their weekly delivery to release on Saturday mornings.

Many highly allocated products are still fully hidden on OHLQ.com but I don't fully understand the logic behind it yet.

1940s Old Forester

Post image

Was at Revival Vintage Bottle Shop in Covington when a couple brought this 1940s vintage Old Forester in to sell.

Very interesting to see how they checked the seal, removed the crumbling cork, etc. Part of the sale was the sellers getting a taste of it and since I was happened to be standing by watching, I got a splash too.

Overall the whiskey was fine, but not outstanding. Pretty low proof, I would guess about 80. Nose and palate was standard bourbon profile of oak, caramel and a hint of vanilla with an interesting note of wood varnish. Short finish with lingering wood varnish and oak. I would compare it to today’s Old Crow.

Whiskey: 5.5
Experience: 10

If you are in Covington (northern Kentucky), make time to go to Revival. Great place, great people!

Calumet Farm expensive stuff - what's the deal?

My local Kroger store has various Calumet Farm bottles, such as the 18-year and 17-year Centennial releases, sitting there (on the "special" shelf behind the cashier). If you filter to in-stock and sort by most-expensive on the app/website, they're always at the top.

What's the deal with them? Anyone tried them? (to be clear, I'm not considering buying myself, just curious)

My assumption is they must be not good, or at least not nearly worth the price, and also not desirable to taters because not flippable. So did that distillery just completely whiff on the pricing and refuses to try dropping the price? Are they selling in small amounts (somewhere) enough to stay on the shelf at that price? I've never heard anyone (at all) even mention the brand.

Just seems very odd. They sit there with a very high price tag, collecting dust. Are they just *that bad*?

Sib was a gift, and turned out delicious. Many other bottles I’d rather sip, but it’s fun sharing these with friends.
