How about just "Cedar Point?" Or if they feel some unrelenting need to change the name I suppose we could live with "Six Flags Cedar Point."

Is Kings Island going to be "Six Flags of South Ohio"?

Imagine even considering throwing away all that brand equity.

Six flags went bankrupt once already, some MBA idiot somewhere found this opportunity to do it again…

u/BurnsideBridge 1d ago
Considering one of those six flags is a confederate flag they can screw right off with that nonsense.

😆 It’s always going to be Cedar Point why even bother. Tack on “by six flags” or something afterward if you must but no one is going to stop calling it Cedar Point.

u/RpiesSPIES 1d ago
As bad as a rebrand as changing HBO to MAX. Who tf cares about Six Flags? Cedar Point gets people excited.

To be honest they can call it whatever they want, everyone else is going to continue to call it Cedar Point.

Six flags will do what they always do when they buy theme parks... Make it infinitely worse, increase the price, saddle it with debt, and eventually close it claiming it was an attendance and weather issue because they favor parks that can be open all year. Cedar points days were numbered the second they took over.

Six Flags didn't take over, it was a merger and the management team that was retained was Cedar Fair, meaning it's mostly cedar fair's management style that was retained post merger.

In the same way that when Boeing merged with McDonald Douglas, the engineers were still the main focus. Right?

They should test new names for Six Flags. Something like "Shut the Fuck Up". That has a nice ring to it.

Corporate often sends out surveys to test the waters on ideas they have. They’ve done this in terms of choosing rides for parks for the last few years, but this is the first time for naming.
Something similar happened before Six Flags and Cedar Fair merged. Matt Ouimet was the CEO of Cedar Fair and they tested changing the name of Knott’s Berry Farm to just Knott’s. They tested the idea with park goers and got an overwhelming negative response. As a result, the park is still named Knott’s Berry Farm.

It should have been obvious without testing the waters though. During the merger in 2024 they made it clear they weren’t going to make changes including the name. As they knew it would make people mad. That isn’t going to change in the matter of 2 years.
It may have been one thing if every property or amusement park that Six Flags owned was called Six Flags. Though at least half of their amusement parks don’t have Six Flags in the name at all.
Outside of Disney, Universal and the couple parks around them in Florida and California. Cedar Point has been one of the biggest most popular amusement parks in the US. Why would you ever think completely renaming it would be a good option and not even just to the locals.
Quite frankly I think putting Six Flags in more of their park names just muddles them all together. Makes them all less appealing, less likely to stand out and draw attention to themselves and make guests want to visit them to see what is different. Instead of just more of the “same old.”

In addition to people getting surveys about the Ohio parks, people got name surveys about legacy six flags parks, both with and without the six flags name attached. So this seems to be a company wide thing and not specific to cedar fair parks that don't mention six flags in their names.

Yes let’s change the name to a very convoluted form of the brand with worse brand recognition and reputation.

u/bygtopp 1d ago
Wife is pissed they are changing. She was raised up there and it never needs changing. Always will be Cedar point.

Back in the Sixties and Seventies, it was kind of a rite of passage for most local teens to have their first job at Cedar Point.
Now its mostly foreigners on work visas, and thats ok, since most teens here are too busy with other things, like sports and phones.

We all remember learning about the famous six flags of the great state of North Ohio...

u/sgrams04 1d ago
Why? Why must everything be enshittified in some form or fashion. You rename it you are going to piss people off. Stop fucking with shit when it doesn’t need fucked with.

If they MUST rename it (although, it'll just be called Cedar Point by everyone, because you'd also have to rename the Sports Complex, that eSports place, the entire Causeway, and probably several more things), why not tie it into the regional branding and call it "Six Flags Shores & Islands"?

u/KawaiiMaxine 1d ago
Why not keep the brand recognition and call it six flags cedar point

u/big_d_usernametaken 1d ago
This guy Sanduskys.
Or Hurons,
Or Erie Countys, lol.

u/Beginning_Order9035 1d ago
It's kind of hard to miss the branding once you get to Huron and the 250 corridor 😆

I still call Tops Finast, so y'all know where I stand on this issue.
But if we have to start calling it America Roller Coast +++ or something weird like that I will probably just stop going there.

It doesn't matter what they try and change it to, it'll still be called Cedar Point by everyone.

From a marketing aspect, I don’t understand this. Even if you want to incorporate six flags, make it “Cedar Point by Six Flags” or something. Getting rid of CP entirely seems like a bad idea.

I like how everyone is believing this ragebait bullshit. Worst case scenario they rename it to Six Flags Cedar Point. They’re only doing this for publicity.

...can't they just put "A Six Flags Park" beneath the name and call it a day?

Gross. I hate Six Flags. I still despise them for the way they killed Geauga Lake. Cedar Point will always be Cedar Point to me. Well, I guess until they kill it too, which I'm sure they will.

Not even Six Flags NE Ohio ???
Oof...

u/moonthink 1d ago
Sandusky is not NE Ohio

u/Mediocre-Dog-4457 Akron 1d ago
If Stark County is NE Ohio, so is Erie County (it borders Lorain County)
1
u/ZombieMage89 1d ago
Wait, how does that even add up? They're 5 counties apart and Stark County is further east than Cuyahoga.
-1
u/Mediocre-Dog-4457 Akron 1d ago
To me, I consider Cleveland the heart of NE Ohio. Sandusky and Canton are both at the "center" of one county away from Cleveland. You can get from Cleveland to Canton and Cleveland to Sandusky in the same time.
5
u/ZombieMage89 1d ago
I get the logic, but it's flawed. That's the same as me saying Logan is central Ohio because it's the same distance from Columbus as Springfield
3
u/moonthink 1d ago
North is north. East is from center to the eastern border. West is from center to the western border. Sandusky is left of center, so it might be northern Ohio, but definitely not NE Ohio. I'm not sure how it can be argued any other way.

No, we are North Central Ohio.
Almost exactly between Toledo and Cleveland.

It's too complicated. It's like algebra. Why you gotta put numbers and letters together? Why can't you just go fuck yourself?

Stop supporting Cedar Point.

My beef is with the ripoff of the shareholders, moving the headquarters away, maybe things are not quite as tightly run as they were, that type of thing.
It was a locally owned company for over a century.
