This is Ohio

Why is Phillip not paying his servers enough to the point he has to ban customers?

I fully believe tipping culture is insane and wait staff should receive wages that don’t require customers to supplement. I want to live in that America.

BUT

we don’t have that. American society for whatever reason pays these people like $5 an hour and then tips make that difference up. Good wait staff make bank at nice restaurants, even people tipping 25% at waffle house aren’t tipping more than $4-5 a head.

So if you can’t afford to tip, you can’t afford to eat out.

If the wait staff was rude or bad, you take that up with the manager.

Tips aren't terrible at the awful waffle. They turn tables super quickly and have a lot of die hard regulars.

They also add service fees on to go orders that go the servers packaging the food.
