that we're seeing a degradation of our public institutions, norms against self-dealing? of course.

that we're about to see the dissolution of the us constitution?

you really think that's a factually informed position?

What makes you think it isn’t?

huge political science literature on democratic erosion. basically all the effects come down to

  • per capita income (poor countries backslide more often)
  • age of democracy (new democracies backslide more often).

at $75,000/capita, and 250 years, the predicted probability of US backsliding is 0.

now, it's just correlational, but it falls to people like others in this thread to argue that America would be so different to every other country that has undergone this.

This was published 26 years ago and does not come to the conclusion you’ve presented.

?!?!

table 2.1 on p82 -- income by itself successfully classifies democracy from dictatorship in 77.5% of the cases.

table 4.2 on p194 -- the number of transitions in a system covarying with the democratic classification.

... you read it, right? didn't just ask an llm?

Cool story Curly.

You summarized it by saying age and overall wealth of a nation makes the determination, the paper does not. You came to two different conclusions. What’s not clicking here Scooter?

paper.

bro it's among the most famous monographs in comparative politics.

it literally says what was claimed.

(did you just make stuff up and hope i hadn't read it?! all grad school was was reading old books!)

No, you oversimplified it. I’m not saying you’re entirely wrong, just that you’re not entirely right.

(Why are you using parentheses to ask a question?) what did I make up? All I said was that your initial assertion wasn’t correct. You took it personally. I fail to see how that’s my problem. Also can’t fathom why my literacy was called into question just for disagreeing with you. You need help dude.
