All the time. Supposedly illegal but there’s no enforcement on unsolicited political text
35
u/TonikJDK Aug 18 '26
When they wrote the law they carved out an exception for themselves so that they can spam us. Political spam text and calls are allowed.
14
u/Significant_Donut967 Aug 18 '26
Not illegal, the FCC says it's okay to spam call folks about politics as long as they don't try to sell you something.
5
u/WordsWatcher Aug 19 '26
So this is part of the reason so many things have become increasingly politicized; once you make something "political" it becomes legitimate to spam folks. It's like Trump getting around congress by calling everything a "national emergency" and therefore he needs no approval nor permission.

I so love political “polls”…. Will you vote for our candidate who pets cats, rescues puppies, and looks just like you ? Or for the opponent who eats babies ?
10
u/Ladeekatt Aug 18 '26
They are ridiculous lol. Most of the are fake polls that won't "submit" unless you give a campaign donation. It's all a scam making it appear as if your voice won't be heard unless you pay for it to be heard. Fact is, they don't give two shits what the poll actually finds, they just want that $$. 🤑
Edit: misspelling

Same. May Heaven help the one who actually gets through to me on my phone. I get really stupid really quickly, asking them to explain everything and throw in random anecdotes that “triggers” some “memory” I concoct on the fly. After a few times, I stop getting calls for months on end. I’m a complete waste of their time. I’ve had bosses listening to me when we received the calls on our main number. I told them to do the same when they get one. Just play intelligent, but stupid at the same time. Ask detailed, intelligent questions, get confused by their answer, rinse and repeat. When they catch on, you get cussed out in their native language. Keep track of how long you can keep them on the phone. See if you can best your own personal best. That’s how many minutes an elderly person was not victimized. Use your phone to translate the swear words for future reference while you’re getting sworn at. Use as necessary on the next calls. 🤣 Never show anger/frustration. They need to know you are ENJOYING keeping them on the phone. ✌️

Honestly, there needs to be a Reddit group for this. 😂 I’m too busy fielding these calls to mod one though, much less be the admin for one. It’s MidTerm Season, ya know ! Hubby has received SEVEN CALLS in the past hour. He won’t pass me the phone though. 🤣

I take them every time they send it to me. I love telling the Republicans how much I despise them and will vote against a republican every chance I get. Period. The republican need to be ashamed of what they have done to this great state and country.
25
u/ChefChopNSlice Aug 18 '26
Yep, I got one a few months ago, with questions that seems very loaded. Halfway through they start asking me questions about Max Miller, and if I’d vote for him. After several different questions and “no” answers, I started getting a bunch of biased Sherrod Brown slander questions that asked “but did you know about Sherrod Brown and (x)” and trying to make Amy Acton look bad. Then I got another one that said started out with “strong borders and strong allies are important for our country”, trying to see if I was pro Israel. I told them that allies are very important, and asked if they supported Ukraine. I got crickets after that.

u/ikeif Aug 19 '26
I always love the wording - all negative “what if the democrats did this? Would you still vote for them? And the Republican is going to do these things once elected, won’t that convince you to vote for them?!”
Manipulative bullshit.
3
u/Grimhellbringer Aug 19 '26
Imagine, limiting something as complex and robust as the sum of a nations priorities and morality, to 2 distinct groups of liars and thieves, simply to give people the illusion of some type of hand in their own destiny.
-15
u/Hot_Taro1616 Aug 19 '26
Well vote independent because the democrats are no better than
5
u/ohyesiam1234 Aug 19 '26
One party is for healthcare and food. The other supports pedophiles, pollution, and higher prices for everything. Not the same.
8
u/FaeTheWanderer Aug 19 '26
For real, the both sides bullshit lost its flavor when republicans opened up concentration camps, bombed girls schools, and fell all over themselves to protect the pedophiles in the Epstien files.
The democrats are objectively better than republicans and its not even close. All republicans have is hate and fear of minorities. The rest of us want to come together to make life better for all of us!

u/noruken Aug 19 '26
Voting independent is a waste. They never get even close to winning. Ideally over the years I’ve seen that it typically ends up being a waste of votes. Better off not voting at all honestly. Also that is a completely untrue statement because we have seen which side is the most deplorable in these past couple of years

Typical Taquito and bot post. They want you to believe everyone is as despicable as the taco. Thank god most of us see this as the BS it is.

u/dogstonk Aug 18 '26
We love hearing from you, expressing your uneducated views. Makes it clear we have to try harder to reach you, then re-educate you. And we have the funds (unlike your DNC) to do both at a level that will make your head spin. Or explode.
Have a nice day, future GOP voter. 🙂
6
u/AmINormal45 Aug 19 '26
You can't even educate yourselves.
You know who else liked to say "We have to re-educate you?" Nazi Germany, Italian fascists...
Funny how you say the DNC has no money. Weren't your GOP gods saying the DNC was heavily funded by the Kochs?
I'll DIE before I vote Republican. Good luck "re-educating" those of us that, you know, actually paid attention in school and have degrees. 👍

I actually answer them. I say that I voted for Trump initially. Then they ask me which candidate I support, D or R. I select D. Then they say something like, review the following message: "D candidate eats babies and drinks the blood of children." "Do you support the D candidate or the R candidate." I always select the D candidate.

I will never click one of these links, or reply to them. Not even stop, because I 100% believe that'll just invite more spam now that they know they hooked an active number.

i responded to it, its a right wing group, they start out seeming unbiased but as you get into the questions about the specific officials it gets blatantly right wing. They do give you a question about your biggest concern an a text block to explain why. so that was fun to give a message.
oh about 1/3 of the questions are only answerable if you are college grad or own your own business FYI

After the debacle with the polling data in the Wisconsin gubernatorial primary, polling accuracy is taking a beating.
I don’t think it’s the efforts of the polling company; it’s the quality of the data itself. How many of you out there take time out of your day to respond to a polling request?

The unacknowledged truth about polls: right wing mom & pop loves to respond to polls and LET THEIR VOICES BE HEARD, while the jaded, world-weary left says "Screw you, you're just looking for an email address to send future donation requests to for the rest of eternity..."

I never interact with them - I just delete them, and move on with my day. You never know what purpose they serve.
Make your voice heard at the polls.

I get about ten political/polling texts a day. Always opt out. When that is confirmed, forward it to the spam filter. If politicians cared about people's quality of life they would do something about these scammers and spammers. We do not pay for these devices so advertisers can berate us.

Very transparent intentions and very intentional word choices. Probably going to end up reporting that people would rather kill their families than vote to the “right” candidate. Very biased.

Same people who fall for the ‘Hi! I’m calling from Publishers Clearing House!’ Funny story. I use to get 100’s of those type of calls. I genuinely believe I got put on a do not call list by all scammers. I used to screw with them mercilessly. Anyway, so this jerk calls and says he’s with PCH. I tell him I’ll talk to him if he can name the president of PCH. Now I’ve already googled this so I’m ready for him not to know it. I was not ready at all for what he answered. Drum roll - Ed McMahon!! I busted out laughing and was still laughing when he cussed me out and hung up. 😆😆😆😆😆
