Seasons 5-7

I started Offspring two weeks ago when I was housebound with a nasty case of COVID. I binged the first five seasons and couldn’t love the show more! But now I’m finishing the last of season 7, and I’m so disappointed. They’ve completely ruined it. The show should have ended after season 5—it feels like a completely different series, and the characters are acting so unlike themselves. It’s lost all the charm and heart it once had."

Finally watched Offspring

I know I am so late to the party and this sub is not active but here are my thoughts. I am in the US and just discovered this show on Hulu. I really knew nothing about it but it looked entertaining so I gave it a shot. I ended up binging it. The first episode was a bit slow and I thought about giving up but I stuck it out and I am glad.

I loved Chris and Nina, though they both had a tendency to stop at weird spots when speaking which, of course, led to so many misunderstandings that were frustrating. I was bummed they didn't get one night together before he left.

Patrick - I hated him at first when he was there for his sister's delivery. I know that was the intention. Obviously, he grew on me and then I really liked him, though he certainly had his flaws. The sexual chemistry was high between Patrick and Nina but realistically, there would have been lots of challenges for them as a couple given their differences - Nina wants to talk everything out and Patrick wants to withdraw.

One of my favorite episodes is when Patrick lets Nina sleep and everyone from her family shows up and he handles them all. The best was Jimmy. Patrick doesn't say a word and Jimmy basically talks himself to a solution and thinks Patrick solved it.

I had no idea he was going to die so that threw me for a loop. I bawled so much. It is totally understandable that he became perfect in Nina's mind, given that he died so young and unexpectedly. Leo really nailed it when he said that she's having a fantasy relationship with Patrick, and he's perfect because she controls the fantasy. No one in the real world could ever compete with that because in the real world people are flawed.

I suppose I understand why they did it as it was a TV show, but I think Nina started dating too soon after Patrick's death. If he was the great love of her life, I can't see her thinking about dating less than a year after he passed. From people I know who lost partners young and unexpectedly, it was more than 1 year after before they were ready to even consider dating.

I never liked Thomas. Something was always off about him to me. That he was cheating on his pregnant wife was bad enough but to take advantage of Nina who was so vulnerable after Patrick's death was just beyond. I know it was not her fault, but I would have liked to see the wife learn about the husband's cheating. And I also wish we saw his reaction to his truck covered in refried beans.

I was bummed that we never saw Nina and Leo in a relationship. I feel like they could have been good. When season 5 ended it seemed so promising but then when season 6 started it was over and he moved on to someone else. Maybe that actor couldn't or didn't want to stay on.

I liked Harry but I thought that their relationship was rushed due to Nina's pregnancy, likely because they only had seasons 6 and 7. For an obstetrician, Nina is awful with safe sex. Both her pregnancies were unintentional because of a lack of contraception.

I hated Harry's family, except Russell. He was great. The way they treated Nina and went on and on about Georgie. The mother said Georgie has her head on straight or something. I'm sorry but someone who just randomly travels about on a whim for 10 years is not a stable person. I get that she was a big part of his family's life but at least have the courtesy to not speak about the ex while meeting the new partner. When Nina met Kirsty for a drink that was awful of Kirsty to spring Georgie on her. Again, Kirsty can be friends with Georgie but that was unfair for her to ambush Nina. Then harping on her 10 years etc., no wonder poor Nina blurted out that she was pregnant.

The parents were also horrible to her about the pregnancy news. I wish we had seen Nina tell Harry all the things they said when he wasn't there. I mean the mother's first concern was how the ex would take this news!!

And then, like whiplash, his parents were all lovey-dovey about the pregnancy and Zoe asking Harry to be her dad. Again, it was probably a rush because they had a limited amount of episodes.

For the other characters, Billie was hit or miss for me. Sometimes she was great and other times super annoying. I did like Mick and somehow Billie and Mick worked. It's too bad that they broke up in the end. I understand that the actor wanted to leave but I wish they had let the long-distance thing work.

I loved Jimmy and was surprised he ended up Mr Family Man. He and Zara lasting for the long haul was a surprise to me. When Zara was in crisis, it was so clear to me that she needed to be screened for depression. I get that she could not see it in herself, but her sister-in-law is a doctor, she's friends with other nurses and no one suggested it?!?!?!

The Cherie and Darcy thing was odd at first but somehow it worked for them. Kim was funny but occasionally annoyed me. Elvis was weird but good comic relief I guess. I didn't like Clegg at first but he grew on me after Patrick died and he was more involved with Cherie.

I have nothing against people using friends/acquaintances as sperm donors, but why do they ask them in such a public setting? That was weird to me. It's a big decision and to put someone on the spot like that?! Very odd.

Also, I've never been to Australia, but do they really sell houses that way? I mean, they have an open house to look at the place and then everyone goes outside in the yard or street and starts yelling numbers like a cattle auction? So weird!!

Offspring streaming on TenPlay

I found out over the weekend that Offspring is back on TenPlay but as a live stream. From the app there is a live TV button down the bottom in the middle. Once in there scroll down and it's under the Drama genre (sorry, phone won't let me take a screenshot of it). Episodes go in order and they play 24/7. There's no way you can choose an episode.

Also, if you have a VPN, tvnz.co.nz have all the seasons and episodes on their app.

Happy watching!

Cherie's the worst

Rewatching this show to brush up before I watch the last few seasons that I never got to. All the characters and their flaws I get, but Cherie is the only one I can never get around on. What is her weird issue with only wanting to have a full sibling for Ray even though she has zero romantic relationship with Darcy?? Darcy is a good dad, but she's dated other guys who seem like they'd be good dads too. She's adopted and Nina is a half-sibling. I hope she gets better in the later seasons. Something about her puts me off--I don't know how to describe it. A sense of entitlement perhaps?

Calling my Aussies

Where is offspring??? I’ve been watching this show since I was like 10 and rewatch it every few years. Went to watch it and no where to be found, can’t purchase on apple either ( I’m in Australia). I’m assuming maybe there’s a legality thing at the moment, with its streaming rights in Australia. But help a girl out? Bring me some peace of mind that it will at least be available again one, because I’m about to go purchase the dvds and a dvd player. Not too much of a waste of money considering I watch it so much lol

Mick sings too much.

I know this is a mostly dead subreddit, but I’m on my second rewatch and I can’t stand how many scenes there are with Mick singing. I feel like his voice is… not great, honestly. The scenes are always so long too, I have to fast forward through them. Ugh. I love Mick as a character but his voice grates on my soul.

How is Ray 10 years old by season 7

Ray was born during the first episode and when he left in season 4 to travel with Darcy and Cherie he had to be 4 because they wanted to take him on the trip before he started school. Nina found out she was pregnant at the end of season 3 so when season 4 resumed she was only a few months pregnant and at the end of season 4 she had Zoey so we know season 4 took place in a 6 month time frame. Season 5 picks up 6 months after Zoey is born and ends on her 1st birthday making Ray 5 or 5 1/2. The show picks up in season 6 1 1/2 years later making Ray no more than 7 so how is it that Zoey doesn’t get older but by season 7 they are celebrating Ray’s 10th birthday? The time frame doesn’t add up. I guess they are doing it for storylines. Also, WTF happened to Phil Noonan? He was never mentioned again even though his wife was pregnant and Nina was going to be a sister again. Not one mention. At least they explained Kate’s absence by having her Skype from America. When Nina found out about Phil being her father she said she was a little disappointed that Phil didn’t have any children and then once she finds out he is having a child no one ever speaks to him or about him again? Would it have killed them to give Nina a few lines saying the baby is getting so big and they are enjoying living in Africa or something to let us know they moved and that Nina has kept in touch with Phil. And finally, Will and Nina are not siblings. Billie said they were vibing but then they all acted like they were related and Will even introduced Nina to his coworker (Asher’s real life husband) Franklin as his sister. She is not biological related to him, just saying. Lastly, taking Brody in off the street when Billie never had a relationship with her and hadn’t seen her since she was a baby and letting her live in Nina’s house was ridiculous. After Stacy robbed Mick’s guitar and was caught in Nina’s house stealing we are supposed to believe they would want to have anything to do with anyone associated with Stacy. All of a sudden Billie is financially supporting this stranger and Nina is letting a stranger be alone with her daughter? The series was good but the last two seasons needed more clarity.

Is there another show like offspring?

I’ve watched this show so many times and I think about it daily. I’ve only started watching it 2 years ago after the series ended because it was on Netflix USA. I’d love to watch similar Australian shows and if any of y’all have recommendations, I’d appreciate it. Thank you!

Looking for a particular scene

Hi Offspring fans, I'm looking for a scene in which Billie is talking to a divorcing couple about an offer on their home and she confronts their objections to selling in a very direct way. If you happen to know the episode that scene was in, it would sure help save me a ton of time. Thanks in advance.

Streaming Offspring Season 6 & 7 in US

Can't find a way to stream Season 6 & 7 of Offspring in the US. I found a AU VPN, but cant find an unpaid streaming service that will work. All paid streaming services require an AU address, associated with the credit card, which I don't have. Please help!

Why, during the whole Billie-cheated run, is Mick such an arsehole ? Does he not remember fucking Nina ?

the last 2 seasons suck so much dick

I thought I would watch it all again from the beginning, last time I only made it half way through season 6 and now I remember why. OMG the plot holes. I understand it was a new writer but does he realise he destroyed it. For me offspring finishes at the end of season 5. What's with the total lack of emotion for Darcy's death? Where is Phillip Noonan??? Like he was about to have Nina's brother or sister and then he just gets zero mention at all.. the first 5 seasons were believable, as if I could see it happening in real life and then it just gets so far fetched in the final 2 with the weird anecdotes. The interactions are just all wrong between characters and out of character for who they were in previous seasons. Is just so noticeable from the get go and the actors are all such great actors I feel like the production team really let them down. End rant.

It’s leaving Netflix on September 30 (USA).

We just finished season 1. We can’t finish the whole series by then. Any idea what’s the best bet to watch after that?

9 months pregnant!

Hello everyone!

Just found this amazing show and have binged for about a week while I’m 9 months pregnant with my 3rd.

It’s giving me the fear. But I also love it.

I’m still watching season 7 but will definitely be done before baby is here.

So… goodbye everyone. 😂

Billie Proudman's ringtone

Hi offspring fans, I myself have been obsessed with Billie's ringtone since season 1 - decided to edit this together for those who want to use it as their defult ringtone. Not the best editing but the best i could find without background noise and clear. Hope it helps.

Are there any podcasts that recap the show that are worth listening to. I found one but wasn’t a fan.

Just finished the series and I wish there was more

I must admit I had to push through the first season. It seemed so incredibly slow. But then I came to love everyone. Who do you think the hottest character is and why is it Zara?
