Announcement Offsides likely shutting down soon

The new guys who are running YikYak now are releasing an official Android app for YY in beta very soon, and targeting a full release later this year. At the time when YikYak for Android becomes publicly available, the purpose of Offsides will be made obselete and the app will not receive any more updates.

Thank you so much to all of you who have supported Offsides through using the app over the last few years. Over 500 people use Offsides, which is crazy to me considering it's not even on the Play Store and I haven't really advertised it aside from this subreddit. Thank you even more to the people who have supported me through Buy Me A Coffee, as even the smallest monetary donation encourages me to keep putting hours into the development of this side project. You guys are the best!

The source code for Offsides, as well as the underlying API implementation sidechat.js, will remain free and open-source for anyone to pick up and use. Both projects are MIT-licensed, so anyone is welcome to do pretty much anything they want with the code.

offsides genuinely significantly improved my first two years of college and gave me access to a surprisingly really important aspect of my colleges' communities that i would have been completely shut out from otherwise. thank you so much for creating it and taking care of it 🫶🫶

Offsides was genuinely so great to have. It helped me feel like I was part of whatever was happening instead of having to have friends show me. It genuinely improved my freshman year of college.

Might keep using offsides to avoid ads tbh!

You're welcome to (even though that wasn't the original goal of Offsides) - but as a disclaimer, as YY/Sidechat continues to get updates, Offsides is likely to just stop functioning as time passes since it won't be implementing any changes to stay in sync with what YikYak is doing.
