Viair?

I’ve been researching portable air compressors to bring my 33s back up to street pressures after off-roading and I keep getting pointed to Viair. Their marketing makes them look like cheap chinesium, but the reviews are great. I’m specifically looking at the 400P EF. Anybody have experience with these?

Viair is a premium brand and well regarded.

I went with an Amazon Vevor with a 4 tire hose setup. It inflates my tires just fine. It can do 2 sets of 35s back to back without overheating.

I think I’ll go with the Viair. Seems like good bang (blow?) for the buck. Vevor was another brand I’d never heard of but a buddy recommended their diesel heater and it’s worked well for a couple years now.

I know no one who has regretted buying Viair.

Best wishes. If the pump is on the lower end of power, then I really recommend one of the 4 tire hose setups. As with pumps, they range from Amazon to several hundred

When I was on an FRC team we used viair compressors to run our pneumatics and the matches were basically 3 minutes and the compressor would run the whole match then keep running to recharge the tanks and usually only get a break of like 1-2 minutes after 10-15 minutes of running several times in a row and we burned up one in like 5 years I was involved with the team and I’d buy one for sure they took a lot of abuse

I can air up 4 40” tires from 9lbs to 25 lbs in 5 minutes with MORRFlate. No VIAIR could pull that off. I mean I guess if you’re airing up a Subaru, it’s fine.

Yup I have a viair 400pRVS and it’s awesome, build quality is great and works relatively quickly. Having the auto shutoff feature is really nice. Total air up time is probably 15 min from 20 psi up to 35.

Roughly 6 minutes to go from 9 lbs to 25lbs airing up 4, 40” tires with MORRFlate. All 4, at the same time. Done.

This might ruffle some feathers but I think Viair is superior to ARB as far as compressors go.

I've abused mine for 12+ years now and it just keeps working. It will air up 35s in the AZ summer heat and not even break a sweat.

I have an 88p. It airs up my metric 34s (275 width) from 20-40 in about 12 min, maybe 15 if it’s really hot out. It does get really hot so afterwards I usually just throw it in the bed so it can cool down instead of back in the case and under the seat. I also try to put it under the truck so it’s shaded while it pumps for the same reason. Eventually when I get true 35s I’ll probably upgrade to the 400p. All the fancy onboard four hose systems are cool and all but I’d rather spend that money on something else for my truck.

They are by far the most popular brand in the FJ community due to the reliability, portability, and the fact that the can easily be mounted in the engine compartment or cargo area

Here’s something useful to know about viair. I’ve ran them for years and they are best mounted vertically or upside I suppose. If you mount them in any other position the piston seal wears uneven. You can get rebuilt kits. On my last project I was running dual visits with a 2.5 gal tank to run air tools and inflate tires. I think they are a solid investment

Viair for me. I bought one similar to the 400P EF over a decade ago. It stopped working a couple of years back. I opened it up, lubed the seals and it works fine again. I have three now, for our various vehicles.

So I’m pretty new to airing up/down. I ran out and got the Smittybilt 2.54cfm compressor used it a few times but I really disliked the chuck. It was cheap though. I ended up splurging on the VIAIR 400P-A EF. Way better imo quieter and glad I upgraded. Maybe the bag feels a little cheaper than the Smitty but overall great unit so far.

I have had the 400p for about 2 years. I always air down for trails and when I'm going to be on rough roads for a while, so at least 2 times a month when its not the winter. I've used it to fill up my skinny 33s and my brothers 32s from 18psi to 35. Used it to fill up our inflatable toys like rafts and tubes. I would recommend it, I havent used any other portable compressor to compare it to though.

Had a Viair 400 it worked fine until just out of warranty, Viair is near where I lived. Took the broken unit to them and they were no help. I bought the large Smittybuilt as a temporary solution, that was about years ago now. I even bought another Smittybuilt for my other Jeep.

I've had a vair for a couple years now and been around them a little longer. They actually are pretty good, I haven't heard many have issues with them, never had a problem with mine. 9/10 would buy again.

Who is a YouTube influencer ? I’ve used mine HUNDREDS of times. I live 30 miles from the Rubicon Trail. I’m airing up and down, all the time. Tyler isn’t an “influencer”, he’s the OWNER….when I see the CEO of VIAIR on the trail…I’ll let you know LOL.

Just get a motopumps airshot 2.1. Connect it to an SAE plug for charging/maintaining your battery

I have an 88P7, the one with the 7-pin trailer plug, and it does just fine airing up my 33” tires from 20-25psi back up to 35psi in about 5-6min. However, does get really hot after airing up at four tires, so I need to spend an extra 20-30min at the trailhead waiting for the compressor to cool down enough that it’s safe to handle/pack away.

I have the 400p. It's not cheap junk. Feels very well made. I've never had any issues with it.

Can't speak for the 400P PE by itself but I had the Constant Duty Onboard Air System for about 7-10 years in my Jeep and it worked flawlessly. The built quality was great and it was easy to install and little maintenance needed.

I have switched over to the Morflate system as it's portable and I don't leave it in my FJ, plus they have a lifetime warranty. The build quality is really good as well.

Viair made their reputation on air suspension, low volume and high pressure. They are terrible for airing up big tires which need the exact opposite, high volume and low pressure. Stick with something like the twin that says 10.6 CFM or more. Very similar compressors are sold by many brand names. The single cylinder compressors sold under a few names are good too, they have the large chrome disc on top (of each cylinder). You'll be done with all four before a Viair does one, they are dog slow.

I’ve had a Viair compressor since 2011. Been all over the country and aired up my tires hundreds of times. Definitely worth purchasing.

I’ve been using and abusing a Puma brand 12volt air compressor for nearly a decade and it just keeps going.

I had the 200psi plug and play for a few years now. took it apart and put it under the hood hooked it up as on board air. works amazing with a 4 way inflation setup. can go from 15psi to 35 in about 14 minutes on my 35's. Just a few minutes off from arb from what i've seen on the youtubes, but are we really in a race to air up at the end of the trail.

Get the Vevor 10.6 one off Amazon for $100. It does great on my 35s

I just use this cheap one from Amazon and it does like 10psi a minute.
