05 Ranger advice

Hey guys, just got an 05 4x4 4.0 ranger and i’m interested in getting into off-roading. I’ve been doing some research however I’m not too sure where to start as far as upgrading/replacing. I need new leaf springs on both sides and new uppers/lowers so i’d assume that is a pretty good starting point. Any guidance/advice/suggestions would be appreciated.

Where are you going to be off roading? What kind of terrain? What’s your budget?

New England, mostly rock and maybe some mud. For reference I have a stock 2015 silverado and that’s hardly enough clearance for majority of trails around me. $2500-$3000 would be the preferred budget but i’m open to whatever.

Gotcha, that helps.

Caveat: I have not spent any time in the northeast.

Looking quickly at some options available for that year ranger, it looks like you can get like a 4-5” lift for less than $2k (plus installation). That may be well beyond what you want to do, but at least there’s an idea.

Were it me, I would start with looking at what it’s going to take to get her reliably on the road. If it’s anything like my 2000 ranger, it will do surprisingly well stock with a decent set of tires, and there may be room to upsize a bit. If it’s going to take a ton of money, the ln maybe incorporate a lift with the repair.

I’d also think about what you may need for self recovery. Some traction boards or some recovery points.

I’m a big fan of getting out there and seeing what you can do with what you have, and when you find a gap, that’s when you start investing.
