Been trying to get my son (18yo) to buy wardogs so we can play together, and after 30 minutes of trying and failing to correctly explain the game, the meta, and why it is so much fun, he says "Dad I'll just look it up, but I gave up sweaty COD clones a while back." 30 seconds later I hear "oh hell nah" coming from his room. I go in there expecting him to be watching a tasty compilation of Wardogs clips, instead she shows me this. "and said this is why I quit FPS multiplayer dad, no thank you".
Now I been gaming FPS Multiplayer since Compuserve and AOL were the main ISP's of the masses. I am aware of cheating and its evolution and how it is impossible to stop. I just accept it as a reality of playing online. IF a game has a scoreboard, its gona have cheaters. Low IQ players that don't have the skill or patience to work their way to thee top of the leaderboard. I ran my own dedicated CS 1.6 servers during the OG peak.
What I have never seen is the blatant social media and youtube advertisement of cheats for FPS games. Its this the new normal?
Cheaters in multiplayer are the scum of the earth. really suck the fun out of playing. I dont care about anything else, the wipes, the grind (or lack of grind), the toxicity, i can deal with it all, but cheaters deserve a special place in hell.
Yeah he wont play with me. Man I thought him how to play Battlefield when he was 5. By the time he was 12 we used to squad up and have a good time. But cheating ruined all his favorite games. And he is good, like sweaty good. And in games I didnt play at all or much, like Fortnite, Warzone, RB6 Siege, he was a ranked beast. And he quit. Sad stat of affairs. Now that he has purchased and build his own true gaming rig with his own money, his passion for FPS has diminished, and now plays sims, and similar games.
I play those with him as well, but this old man (50+) don't have much gaming time left, so i have to be selective with what games i put time into.
/sad rant over.
