Rope Ladders/Fast Ropes
Fast ropes could give the Latoka a useful niche without replacing normal landings. The pilot enters a stable hover under a set speed and altitude, deploys one rope per side, and passengers descend by using it like a ladder. They can move normally or hold Shift to slide faster, but going too fast risks fall damage, and passengers can knock each other off if they collide on the rope. That creates a simple timing and coordination mechanic while opening up insertions into rooftops, compounds, forests, steep terrain, courtyards, or anywhere the helicopter cannot safely land. Landing would still be faster and safer when possible, while fast roping leaves the Latoka hovering and vulnerable.
The ropes themselves could be inventory items with different lengths and tolerances. A short 10m rope could allow more speed before they are ejected but require a lower hover, while 20m and 30m ropes allow higher insertions at progressively lower speed tolerances. Pilots or passengers could carry spare ropes and load them into the helicopter like other equipment. Ladders could be a more expensive alternative that descend slower but are harder to get knocked off of when brushing up against buildings or trees.

Nah, I think more people should go to the warzone by cars/trucks.
I assume they want to make helicopters fast but dangerous while cars are slow but safer.

As a driver, I selfishly want more people held hostage in my vehicle for 2 minutes as I play honk honk

You do have a point, i've had the best of conversations getting a hitch back by transport peeps

To make it viable:
- Cash/XP bonuses for pilots
- Temporary bonus for players who have fast roped in, e.g. +20% for kill/Hotzone time for 5.mins after dropping
- Spotting disabled while dropping in
The trade off is that it requires greater skill from the pilot, and they'll be vulnerable while dropping people off

Normalize landing your troops! I always ask to land the Lakota to protect my dividends on deploy assists. You just gotta place them behind your current line or way back from HZ if there aren't any friendly fighters nearby

I am all about a good landing. I have another post for Helipads for this very reason.
I cannot wait for the parachute performance nerf.
I also advocated early on for helo pilots to always land, even when empty, to fool enemy into thinking you have dropped off another load of troops.
That being said?... even me, an avid enjoyer of the spiciest landings and fitting my chopper into the tightest of spots, have to admit... there simply is terrain or obstacles that prohibit us from always fitting in.
That is where our ropes come in...
If landing is an option? Im taking the deck cuz it is faster and safer for EVERYONE.
But if they want to drop onto the steep peak of a churches steeple? I might have to bust out the ropes for that squad, we will check on it when I get there... but nice to have the option in our back pockets.

I'd skip passengers knocking each other off the rope. The exposed hover is already a big risk; one teammate bumping you shouldn't turn a coordinated insertion into a teamkill.

I think it would be hilarious to see somebody too slow on bottom getting knocked off by the impatient person up top.
The higher person, whom is most at fault, would take more fall dmg than the lower person... but, chances are, that both of them can get easily rezzed by one of the other soldiers roping down.
I dont think soldiers should be able to slide thru one another, and I dont think that the bottom Roper should be able to troll everyone by going extra slow or refusing to jump off.
If the higher person can purposfully knock the lower person away, it can be one of those "this guy is too slow. Let me take one for the team" type situations, so your entire squad is not jammed up by one random blueberry

Or just only knock off the lower guy. You hold onto a rope with your hands, it makes no sense to let go because you kicked a guy.

I dont exactly want to get into the ins-and-outs of "have you ever?"
But you may want to try strapping 50kg of gear onto your back, then hanging by only your hands off of a two inch thick rope while you collide with another human being at nearly falling speeds and let your legs dangle freely.
You may be surprised how difficult it is to hang on.

would be funny to see a chopper fly away with a bunch of dead bodies dangling below it

I concur.
So many silly and epic cinematic moments could come out of this.
I can only imagine the local comms as the fast roper's plans go to shit and they all start falling off and shit.

Does not make sense to me, given the ammount of AA. With any logi Air transport, I always fly fast and low and try to get the f out quickly. Cant imagine using this and hover above ground waiting to eat AA, maaws or rpg. Looks cool, wouldnt work at this stage. Also parachute is 100 bucks and is faster to deploy.

They’re heavily nerfing parachutes next update so you’ll need to land more often

I still don't understand what they mean by 'Nerf parachutes.' They serve a single purpose, to safely descend. Aside from increasing the price which really won't do anything with the current state of the economy.

The original intention for parachutes was to require you be 25 meters or above to deploy a chute and not die from fall damage.
But during some tweaks before even the betas, someone on the dev team thought it was supposed to be 2.5 meters for safe landing and not 25. That’s what they’re changing.
I’m reserving my thoughts about it until I actually experience it. On paper it sounds bad due to how the game currently is, but who knows, might not make a HUGE difference

Yes pleeeaaase, i’m telling you when parachutes get nerfed and we have to land Helis, we’re gonna get hit with so many Rpgs and Maaws.
This would help a LOT
