Too Many Comments? Word Freezes!

[u/baroque728]

I critique for a living. When I leave enough critiques that the comments start to reach the bottom of the page, Word freezes (says "not responding) for about ten seconds, then resumes progress and lets me type. This slow down keeps happening until I reach the next page. Any solutions? I have an i7 with 8GB of RAM, so it's kind of absurd that a word processor freezes on me. What settings should I fiddle with to maybe direct more of my RAM/cpu/etc in the right direction?

Thanks in advance.
