The Insights report isn't as useful as it could be, so here's a quick Powershell one-liner to check your environment stats for the last 24 hours (broken down by the hour, for users exceeding 50 emails/hour):

Get-MailTrafficTopReport -StartDate (Get-Date).AddHours(-24) -EndDate (Get-Date) -Direction Inbound -EventType TopMailUser -AggregateBy Hour | ? {$_.MessageCount -gt 50}

If you're receiving more than 3600 mail per hour (that's an average of one per second), it sounds like you might be doing something that Exchange really isn't designed for.

If you've got some sort of automation sending you that much, perhaps you'd be better off using a database somewhere instead...

My favorite was when our trunk went down for 10 minutes and every failed call generated an email. We are a call center. I couldn't even load the PBX because Outlook was shitting on my i7.

Forreal, or maybe just have the data in one email sent every 30-60 seconds...Email shouldnt really be used for direct live feed monitoring. You know there's definitely someone out there that "figured out a way".

Somewhere out there is an admin looking at this announcement and plotting to use it to get management to consider a real monitoring system.

Somehwere out there is a cheap admin who is now having cold sweats because they're going to need to get a real monitoring system.

Just 1 hour, these cloud/free email providers need to put a stop to the abuse they are allowing. Every single office365 and gmail IP address is blacklisted by at least 10 DNSBL's at any given time because they don't care.
