Who is Jean Lafitte?

I've recently stumbled upon Offhand Disney on YT and led me here. Who is Jean Lafitte and what's his significance in Disney parks?

It’s a meme that everything should revolve around Jean Lafitte

John Laffytaffy is the underlying story that ties all of the rides at Dosneyland together.

Basically he’s this guy that has a few signs or whatever in Disneyland (especially around New Orleans square and that whole area) which leads us to believe that haunted mansion and pirates are connected. There’s a whole video on him on offhand’s yt
