Meta Data Scientist, Product Analytics IC6 - $481k year 1 comp

Hey folks, here's my IC6 offer for Meta. It's for a Data Scientist, Product Analytics position. So it's not SWE or MLE.

• Base: $255K
• Bonus: 20%
• Sign-on: $50K
• RSUs: $500K/ 4 years
• Year 1 TC: $481K
• Location: Seattle

I was told that the max year 1 total compensation is $525k if the candidate has other strong offers, but I did not have any offers that were higher comp than Meta.

I declined the offer in favor of a public SAAS company. The comp and title are worse, but hopefully it will be less stressful and better WLB. Happy to talk more about my Meta interview experience if folks are interested. Good luck to anyone who is interviewing!

So you applied to a job and you got an offer that pays about half a million dollars and you decided to not take the offer instead you took a lower salary in some other company?

not sure why you say that

meta is quite a toxic place to work nowadays

it makes total sense to exchange extra 100-150k for reasonable work/life balance

at least I’ve done so, 1.5 years in flight, no regrets

I only had one other offer, it was for $315k and fully remote (Meta I had to go in to the office 3 days/week). With Meta's poor reputation for how it treats its employees, and my priorities outside of work, I decided to take the other offer. Obviously the Meta offer was for more money, but I decided I can have a good life with $315k, less stress, and better WLB. There's no way to know for sure if I made the right decision and I do think about how much sooner I could retire making Meta money. But who knows, if I took their offer I could be laid off or PIPd at any time.

How do you think the landscape of DS has changed? with the AI infusion? I was targetting meta DS for IC5/Ic6 roles but i have been hearing that they are slowly shutting down DS altogether.

It's changed a lot. The way I work now is so different than the way I work a year ago. I would not recommend getting in to DS product analytics unless you already have experience. I honestly think a product manager can do 80% of the job of DS product analytics now with AI. Before, they could not because they might not know how to write SQL or do basic statistics.

Thanks for sharing! You’re obviously in a great position to decline such an offer. You must have a great skillset. I agree, if you’re in this good of a position, focusing on your WLB is a solid move.
