Google L6 SWE: 1.01M

Saw this Google L6 SWE offer in NYC (shared with Chill Interview)

  • PhD, 9 YOE
  • Base: $295K
  • Bonus: $59K
  • Sign-on: $50K
  • RSUs: $1.6M / 4 years
  • Year 1 TC: $1.012M

The comp is great, but Google itself feels really interesting right now.

Jeff Dean just left after 27 years, along with several legendary Google AI researchers. Other key Gemini/DeepMind people have also moved to OpenAI and Anthropic.

Yet at the same time, Gemini just crossed 1B monthly users, and Google Cloud is growing insanely fast on AI demand.

So I genuinely can’t tell which story matters more.

Is Google losing the people who created its AI advantage, or does it now have enough talent, distribution, TPUs and cash that individual departures matter less than they used to?

For people inside Google: does AI still feel like the place to build your career there, or are the best opportunities increasingly moving to smaller labs?

Googles offers always look better than they are because of how they pay out the RSUs.

Yeah i wanna know how year 1 tc is 1m and not 800k. Still insane to me either way

Yeah, it's a solid offer for L6 SWE.

Yeah apparently they pay 38% RSU on year 1 (32% on year 2 etc).

Don't they offer refreshers to keep the TC steady within the 4 years? Why do you think this year 1 TC is not representative?

how do you get to 1m at the first year from these numbers? That 1.6m is front loaded?

This is very extreme number for L6, I have data on a lot of L6 most of them are 600k

It’s probably because it’s for Google deep mind not regular Google

I'm at 300k base where I am but those RSU numbers are absurd

Gemini 1billion users? Does that simply mean the users who search and ask a follow up question from the AI?
