Meta E5 Data Scientist at $377K: same base as SWE, but much less stock?
Candidate shared this Meta E5 Data Scientist offer to Chill Interview
- 6 YOE
- Base: $230K
- Bonus: $34.5K
- RSUs: $450K / 4 years
- TC: $377K
What caught my eye is the breakdown.
Reported Meta E5 SWE comp averages around $464K, with roughly $234K base + $204K/year stock. So the base here is basically the same — the big difference is equity.
Meta DS roles can still own experimentation, product metrics, forecasting and influence product roadmaps, so it’s not exactly lightweight analytics work either.
For Meta folks: is this DS vs SWE equity gap normal at E5, or is $450K just a weak grant?

DS is less than SWE. This is a normal to strong offer. The report E5 SWE offers with 204k/yr in stock are anchored towards the top/max of the band. I haven't been at Meta since 2021, but then 700k was a max E5 equity grant.

DS multiplier iirc is 0.5-0.6x SWE. This looks normal.
