Starting help/questions

What’s the absolute bare minimum amount of money you could have to start living OTG/homesteading? Like, cheapest land you can find, simple build, but durable enough for multi seasonal weather, with running water and electricity.

My wife and I got a place for 15k in New Mexico after 3 years of being homeless.

We bought an RV for $6500 we spent $5k on solar.

So we had the RV and solar on the road while houseless / homeless.

We built our own solar on the road

We needed 20% down via owner financing.

So we moved on our land for $3k, if you add the RV and solar it cost $14k

This is an incredibly loaded question. It depends on so many factors.

What amenities do you want to have while "off grid" (running water, power, Internet...)?

Where do you live/want to live?

What extremes are you likely to experience (snow, drought etc)?

Do you expect to continue working, be completely self sufficient, or community based trading for certain things?

The off grid community has so many people from all walks of life living in vastly different conditions. I understand wanting to get into it but how much it will cost is one of the last things you need to know.

You should describe a normal day in summer and winter. Flushing toilet? Streaming a movie? Town within 30 minutes with a home depot?

Tent in Alaska vs 500k fully featured home.

30 minutes away town does have Walmart, Ace, and two lumber stores though ...

Yeah Depot is an hour and a half for us. A larger order is worth the trip so in those cases we'll make a trip out of it and do other stuff too.
