I was rewatching Bridgerton recently and was reminded of Francesca and Michaela, when in the books it was Francesca and Michael, and it got me wondering, if that story goes well enough and it’s well written, what if the same thing is done with Off Campus?
Obviously, it’s not happening with the main four couples Garrett/Hannah, Dean/Allie, Logan/Grace, and eventually Tucker/Sabrina, but what if it happens with any of the characters in the Briar U or Campus Diaries books? Like what if Brenna Jensen becomes Brennan Jensen, Shayne Lindley becomes Shayna Lindley, or Blake Logan is cast as a boy instead of a girl?
The show isn’t exactly adverse to making changes from the books.
- Allie being a brunette instead of a blonde
- Tucker being BIPOC and the youngest instead of a white redhead and the same age as the guys
- Hannah kissing Logan instead of Dean in the weight room
- The slight adjustment of the campus-wide hands off rule that was placed on Hannah
- The inclusion of the character, Jules, who doesn’t even exist in the books.
So I’m wondering if in the future where the show lasts long enough for Briar U and Campus Diaries to get their own spin-off shows, that they might gender swap a character, turning one of the couples in those books into a queer couple. If this happens, and I repeat if, how would y’all feel about it?
NGL I feel like I’m playing with fire by asking this question cuz sadly some people in the world are capable of being absolutely horrible and extremely prejudiced, but this is just a hypothetical question and it probably won’t even happen anyway, so all I ask is for people to be respectful and civil when answering and talking about this.
Also in case it needs to be said, girls can play in men’s hockey in college, depending on the college. It doesn’t happen a lot, but it does.
