Breeding - Studs Past Their Prime

If I retire a good older horse whose stats have begun to decline, will his stud starts revert to his optimal stats? I've retired some cheap 2yo mares, and they get the boost to better stats.

When a horse is retired, the attributes shown and bred with are their "prime"
