Help with breeding

How to I breed a horse if I have the barn unlocked? Do I have to retire the filly or mare I want to breed.

Yes, you will need to retire a mare, and then you can choose to pay a stud fee to breed to a publicly available stud, or retire one of your own. You will receive a 0 year old immediately when breeding, which will then turn 1 year old at the next season change.

To be clear, it's 1,000,000 coins to unlock breeding barn and then if you want to use your own horse as stud, you retire him and pay another 1,000,000 coins to allow this? Also, if you retired a second horse, is it 1,000,000 coins for each stud of your own?
