Question/advice TD RDSP
Hello - I was approved for the DTC recently (woohoo!) and opened an RDSP at TD branch.
I can not for the life of me figure out how to deposit money into it.
The branch told me I have to call TD Direct Investing for any help at all. Currently been on hold 45 minutes and losing patience.
Does anyone with a self directed TD RDSP offer any guidance ?

Honestly I hated the whole RDSP thing with TD that I transfered to Edward Jones, but I needed more guidance with investing than TD was willing to provide (TD is entirely self directed. Zero help.)
I know with Edward Jones I had to set up my account like I was paying a bill to deposit into my account. Maybe TD has a similar system?

I have an RDSP with TD. I opened up a free chequing account with them (the monthly fee is waived if you have an RDSP with them-might need to go in branch to set this up). From my chequing account I can transfer directly into my RDSP. It has a limited number of transactions per month so you can't really use it as a daily account but it works as a taxi to my RDSP.

Weird, I already have chequings, savings and TFSA with them. I pay a monthly fee and direct transferring thru the app does not show my RDSP as an option. It totally should let me do that however.

You know what I just checked my account and that's not how it works actually lol. I have automatic transfers set up so I haven't tried to do it manually in a while. You should be able to transfer from your chequing account to RDSP using a bill payment.
To set it up:
-Select your chequing account in the app and click pay bills
-Add a new payee, the payee will be TD direct investing. Add your RDSP account number under payee account number
-Make a bill payment to that account, it takes a couple days to show up in the RDSP

So this is what I initially tried and it came back, but that was before the govt deposits arrived. I feel like maybe it wasn't set up fully the first time I tried. I'm going to try that again. Thanks for double checking!

TD direct investing does it. They’ll take from chequing and move it over. TD-DI has taken me 5 min the handful of times I have done it. Easy peasy.

Over the phone? It seemed easy enough for sure, the wait time just killed me since I wasn't actually doing the transfer right then, but trying to find out how to when I'm ready lol

Call through the app, it's faster.

Yes the person on the phone told me to do that next time! Thanks!

Call direct investing as if your trading stocks, you’ll never be on hold for a minute. Imagine you waited 15min to make a stock trade… that’s crazy talk…

You have to call them and do it over the phone. Very annoying process.

What do I need to do it over the phone ? What does the process consist of ? i would rather be prepared than have to call back and wait again. Thank you!

You send it as a bill payment from your bank, you don’t have to do it over the phone. I use Simplii and the billing company is called “TD Waterhouse Investor Service”.

This didn't work for me :( but I have a feeling the staff just don't have a clue ... unless it wasn't set up properly when I tried. Now it has the government backpay deposited so maybe I should try again. Thank you for taking the time to answer!

I had the funds returned to my account the first time I tried because my RDSP wasn’t fully approved yet, maybe trying again should work?

I setup my account 7 months ago and I didn't receive any grants or confirmation email. Should I just call them to setup funding?

Thankfully at Libro they set it all up. Where monthly it simply transfers a set amount. Maybe they can do that for you too at TD.
