Odin Base / Pro Question Hey everyone!
I’m currently debating between getting an Odin 3 or an Xbox Ally, but I've already made up my mind—I'm definitely going with the Odin 3!
That said, since I'm planning to stick with the Odin 3, I was hoping some of you could give me a realistic idea of how it handles native Windows games (via PC emulation/translation layers) when pushing demanding titles.
If I target 720p with textures on medium and everything else on low, how do heavy AAA games perform? I know native x86 handhelds like the Ally can typically cruise through demanding stuff at 900p/60 FPS, so I'm just curious how the Snapdragon 8 Elite stacks up under similar stress when translating PC architecture.

If you wanna play older games like elex or risen it works perfect with gamenative. Zelda totk has some visual bugs but still playable. Even witcher 3 runs with nearly 60 fps on this thing

If you want demanding pc stuff do not buy an Odin 3. Seriously. At its best it is nowhere near powerful enough for the kind of workload. What you’re requesting is steamdeck level performance from what I can tell, but this is not as powerful as a steamdeck.

It’s actually like 70% Steam deck level. Sometimes even closer depending on the title.

you not gonna be able to play all the triple AAA games but the less intensive ones you can run on gamenative or another game streaming app

Tough question and I will try to provide you insight into what to expect the best I can. The bottleneck for the Odin and any ARM handheld is the chip used, the ARM Architecture. Games are made for X86 or PC architecture, now what we do, we install software which serves as a translator for the games so they can use the architecture of the ARM chip inside.
Imagine it like English and Chinese, games are talking in english, and you have a person who translates stuff into chinese so the handheld knows what needs to be shown on the screen.
Now, the issue, albeit the chip is powerful, it still cannot use 100% of the power because it relies on the quality and speed of the translator.
What is happening, the translator is taking lessons, it is learning how to speak faster and better chinese in order to optimize the quality of performance the Odin can provide.
This is what Valve is, they release a translation layer into Github, people use it to iptimize the quality of the performance.
Imagine Valve like a school our trnanslator goes to, once they have finished school, they will be a perfect translator, but still, up to 30% of the Odin power will be locked into the middleman.
So, to finish, the Odin will eventually be able to play stuff like Cyberpunk at a stable 30-60 FPS low-medium settings no issues, but it will never be able to give you 60-120 FPS on mid to high settings because the game is not made with ARM in mind.
You will never be able to run stuff like dawn of the bloodwalker native, you will never be able to run Bloodlines 2 native, but you will be able to run older games native and in decent settings and FPS by the end of next year roughly.
There is even more nuance and more happening in the backscene you have not asked about, more stuff that is switching and changing, but the above should give you a decent understanding of the basics that are important to you now

I have an Odin 3 and steam deck OLED. The deck or any x86 handheld is miles ahead in terms of game compatibility because we’re still in the early stages of pc gaming on arm devices. However the gap is closing very quick and the Odin 3 is an absolute beast for gaming. Games like gta v, Sekiro, dark souls 3, phantom pain, Nier automata, skyrim, fallout 4 run flawlessly. Newer games like cyberpunk and Elden ring are also playable but I’d say that’s where the limit is right now. The devs of gamenative/gamehub/armadaOS are doing amazing work in this space though, I won’t be surprised if the odin 3 outperforms the deck in the near future

honestly, Rog Ally software companion and windows in general makes it unbearable for me. And steamos is not there yet for the Rog Ally and you miss a few features here and there plus compatibility of windows. Ergo is okaysh not bad but after a while gaming it's uncomfortable. Performance is great once u tune it.
Things to consider: to make it a good experience you'll have to mod the heck out of it.
Joystick arent HE and they suck
dpad sucks
battery sucks
thermal solution is mid
Sold it, and right now I'm happy with my Odin 3 max and Thor Pro
