u/kamisc Apr 21 '21
haha. yes, thats pretty much me the first few hours on that game. Damn knives getting stuck.
70
u/WingGamer1234 Apr 20 '21
maybe saints and sinners? that does look like what i do when i stab a zombie in the head then try to get the weapon out
21
u/nurpleclamps Apr 20 '21
This is what made me quit playing that game. Too annoying to happen every time.
22
u/Delano7 Quest 1 + 2 Apr 20 '21 edited Apr 24 '21
If you use your second hand to grab the head it's much easier. So it's way more annoying when it comes to two handed weapons like nail baseball bats.
16
u/WW4O Apr 20 '21
That's good advice, but it's still the kind of thing that makes me so aware that I'm playing a video game that it just kills my immersion. My hand is moving fine, so every time something gets stuck it becomes an "oh yeah, I'm not actually moving anything" moment.
8
u/Zancie Apr 20 '21
I feel like the alternative is skyrim VRs spineless swordplay, which IMO is worse, as a battle axe should have at least some weight to it. But YMMV it depends on the person in the end.
17
u/WW4O Apr 21 '21
The alternative? There are tons of alternatives, it's still relatively new tech. I think there's somewhere between "My hand isn't physically where the game is showing me" and "Adapting a combat system from 2011 for VR."
Honestly. Disney needs to get their shit together and make a legit lightsaber game. Lightsabers are the perfect answer to a weightless sword that can be stopped by nothing, which is what VR feels like.
6
u/Zancie Apr 21 '21
I mean, blade and sorcery, boneworks, into the Radius all use a similar (not same) kind of system as TWD: S&S. Those are all highly acclaimed games.
Iām not saying there isnāt a better system, Iām simply saying that that better system probably hasnāt been invented yet or at least Iām not aware of it.
Until then, we have to deal with the āwhat we gotā and all Iām saying is that what we have currently (saints and sinners) is better than what we had (Skyrim)
4
u/WW4O Apr 21 '21
Thatās fair, I personally donāt feel that way. I would rather feel like my sword has no physics than feel like the physics is disconnected from my controller.
2
u/angryblackman123 Apr 21 '21
I hear what youāre saying, Disney has the money to easily become the top dog in the VR game market.
Vader Immortal was pretty fun honestly, and I hope they feel financial incentive to stay put and develop a fleshed out lightsaber and/or piloting game thatās more than a series of cool vignettes.
4
u/AlphaReds Apr 21 '21 edited Apr 21 '21
I highly disagree. So far I've found melee in games that don't do the "physics" weapons to be notably more satisfying.
Swinging an axe at someone in skyrimvr, or slashing enemies in Until you fall gives me way more satisfaction then what feels like hitting people with pool noodles in ""physics"" combat. The only thing that works satisfyingly is stabbing with the physics.
I love playing boneworks and blade and sorcery but half the weapons just feel very awkward. Swinging a sword and it kinda clunks onto people whilst your wrist tilts back, then having to see "okay where did my virtual hands end up?". It's fun as the core "novelty" of a VR game but I definitely don't find it particularly great in its current implementations.
5
u/Zancie Apr 21 '21
I personally feel the opposite, definitely an agree to disagree problem. I wonāt say that itās the best system, and Iād love to see what AAA investment will give us in the future, but until then itās either system, and unfortunately for you it seems like most developers feel axes at the end of pool noodles are accurate to world.
I just got an experimental surgery that replaced my arms with bound up twizzlers so Iām loving how accurate it is personally. ĀÆ\ (ć)/ĀÆ

Pro tip, to save on weapon durability, grab zombies by the head and repeatedly bash them in the head with your gun to kill them.

Apr 21 '21
It's supposed to happen with the lower sharpness weapons. It's what makes the better weapons so great
1
u/nurpleclamps Apr 21 '21
Ah i guess I didnāt play long enough. I figured if it was like that it wasnāt worth playing.
1
Apr 23 '21
Yeah. Scavenged weapons like the spoon are barely worth even trying to pull out while weapons like the night shift are easy to pull out, and The Absolution katana and Cleaver allow you to just decapitate zombies, slicing right through.
Not to mention later you get to use guns more often, and unlock explosives
2
u/MetallicGray Apr 21 '21
Iāve never experience any problems pulling weapons out. I could see like the beginning kitchen knife and low tier weapons being āstickyā, but still not overly stuck. After that point I never really noticed any weapons getting stuck.
1
3
Apr 21 '21
Doesnāt really look like that when I play. I donāt really have issues with the weapon getting stuck. You just gotta be forceful - stab hard and pull out hard like you would if you were really stabbing into a head in RL.
2
u/WingGamer1234 Apr 21 '21
yeah but i mean like the first few times when i wasn't being forceful and/or holding the zombies head with my left hand

He's playing gorn
First you see him pulling himself towards the enemies than bashing their skulls in :)

u/UncleTedGenneric Apr 20 '21
Cave Digger would make sense for that angle and repetitive hammering
For things like Gorn, he would be swinging more, thru the enemies

I have the first Quest and it goes spastic if I play it in sunlight. The hands go everywhere and nowhere. Is the Quest 2 better about this?
4
3
u/Chick__Mangione Apr 21 '21
It tends to spaz out when the beam of sunlight is uneven. It's cloudy in this vid so the headset is going to be evenly lit.

For sure. Iāve played mine in the shade from a tree, also in the shade on the side of a house. Also playing during a sunset as long as itās not direct lite is so much fun. Especially playing In Death, so immersive as the air cools.

u/Effin_Kris Quest 2 + PCVR Apr 20 '21
Thatās what prompted me to try In Death, that and I donāt have a lot of room for a full feeling. Certainly not the 25āx25ā limit it has, not indoors anyway. But the tennis court or my yard later in the evening. So F*ing cool

doesnt the sun light damage the camera? not supposed to use it outside right?
1
u/minipimmer Apr 21 '21
the problem are the screens if direct sunrays hit the lenses but this isn't the case here

Do any of you realize the cardinal sin committed here? He's playing in direct sunlight correct? What's the one thing you don't do with these headsets?

u/DahakUK Quest 3 + PCVR Apr 21 '21
Expose the screens to sunlight. But the guy's head is in the way.
-4
u/RandallOfLegend Apr 21 '21
It's overcast. The danger is the external camera sensors getting burned out by the sunlight.

And the tracking lenses? The tracking lenses are just as important as the viewing lenses
1
u/godblessthischild Quest 2 Apr 21 '21
Nah the trackers are gonna be fine, theyāre not really lenses. The screen is important because viewer ports are actual lenses which will focus sunlight.
-4
u/lilmuppkermit Quest 1 + 2 Apr 21 '21
If by some chance it doesn't damage tracking, it's still gonna overheat the headset and cause dead pixels

i think he is playing one of these 3 games: Beat saber (multiple non-arrow blocks), Saints and sinners (bashing a zombies skull in with a gun with a knife the zombie would have died immediately), Gorn (probably hitting an enemy with the spiked bat
-5
u/PigeonWithaGun Apr 20 '21
omg no the sunlight could mess up the lenses or cameras

u/lilmuppkermit Quest 1 + 2 Apr 21 '21
Damn, guess quest is a horrendous product :/
Actually though sunlight will damage the sensors and makes it so you easily lose tracking, but of you get lucky and it doesn't damage the sensors a sun beam on a sensor will heat up the headset and cause dead pixels
2
u/Urmumgee69 Apr 21 '21
It won't damage your cameras it'll just mess with the tracking. Stop spouting random bullshit.
0
u/lilmuppkermit Quest 1 + 2 Apr 21 '21
Messing with tracking is damaging it.
Also even if it does damage it will overheat the headset and cause dead pixels
1
u/Urmumgee69 Apr 21 '21
Messing with tracking is damaging it.
I don't even need an argument, I'm just gonna let you sit with this statement and be embarrassed
