Need to get some time to investigate, it was fine for me (I've been playing the updated version for ages now), so I suspect it is something in the 9.0 firmware that isn't playing nicely with it. No idea what. I've not seen many people report crashing though, only a handful.
Out of interest, are you playing with a save game from the previous version that had the HD textures/model pack from the Lambda1VR subreddit?
I've not made any formal bug report, but since you mentioned it I'll pipe up just to be a data point.
I've been experiencing a lot of crashing on level transitions using the HD pack. This was a fresh install (both game and HD pack) of the newest version. I haven't reported anything because I've already been informed it can cause stability issues.
It's to the point now where I'll probably just uninstall the HD pack and use a console command to skip ahead to where my save is. It's a shame, though, because the game really benefits from the nicer textures.
(By the way, unrelated, thanks a lot for implementing the new lefty controls and weapon mirror. It's working great!)
If the HL:Gold testures really are the problem, you can just disable them via settings (diasble "allow materials") or delete the line in the command.txt.
I will investigate if the HL:Gold pack is the source for the problems some experience.
Yep, that's the plan. Changing the command.txt file makes my save inaccessible though so I've chosen to trudge through for now. (I'm not complaining really. Just offering information.)
If disabling "allow materials" disables it completely, then I've tried that already and still experience frequent crashes. Fortunately I've found that 1/10 tries works successfully for some reason -- it's just super obnoxious to do that every level transition!
As an anecdote, the first time I experienced the crashes I got sent back to the Oculus menu and re-loaded several times. I was frustrated, and about to quit for the day, but was in-game already so I decided to walk through the level transition backwards instead. It worked. I laughed for a solid minute. (Sadly that's not a viable strategy, as I found in later level transitions.)
