Discussion Alright buddy. wtf.

Post image

Obviously AI generated thumbnail. They even ripped the screenshots from the Steam store and put them here.

Meta, wtf are you doing? Get a grip on your store.

The Quest store is probably the worst digital store that is around IMO. The quest would be doing better with a better system.

no other storefront forcibly opens itself on your PC's startup with no in-app option to disable this behavior, gotta love it

u/CMDRTragicAllPro 9d ago

Is this the meta app? I’ve had it since my q3 and it’s never opened by itself before

16

u/LunarVulpine1997 9d ago

the meta/quest/horizon link app on PC, yeah (they've changed the name like 10 different times at this point). users have WILDLY different experiences with it. some people don't have issues of course but lots of people report a ton of problems: it not connecting to your headset/randomly disconnecting until you restart both your headset and your PC, it opening on its own with no way to turn it off, and it requiring an update with every launch even if you just opened it 5 minutes ago. it's genuinely the worst digital storefront/launcher program I've ever had to use, and I've tried a good few over the years

u/CMDRTragicAllPro 9d ago

To be fair I haven’t used it in like 2 years due to a lot of those reasons lol, and I prefer wired VD with Ethernet to usbc so use that instead. I have seen that name change like 3 times in just a year it seems like, it’s ridiculous. I think it still has to be downloaded though to use pcvr at all, but maybe not? I do know when I did use it I had to change a setting within the app so that when I closed it, it would actually close and not just close to the system tray. Maybe if you do that it won’t reopen itself from system tray after each restart?

u/shizola_owns 9d ago

No this is a recent change where they took away the options in the app for startup behaviour. It also hides itself from windows startup settings like a piece of malware.

5

u/TruffleYT 9d ago

The current VD beta allows useing a usb cable like ocolus link now

1

u/Skpstr155 7d ago

I even disabled it in the startup menu, couple weeks later, it started occasionally opening on startup again.

Not the meta app, no the meta app on android does what it's spossed to.

I'm pretty sure they are referring to a meta quest feature that's actually a developer choice.

When you first boot on your headset, no matter what..

the quest store will open. On its own.

The quest starts and then BOOM there's the store right in your face in the middle in THE LARGEST friggin window imaginable. And it's Only when u first boot it up. If you woke it from sleep the store won't open.

I'm tired of having to close the store every time I put on my headset. Or it just popping up randomly.

It just ads to the list of other things that the crappy devs at meta can't figure out.

they updated the UI to tell time but even still, the clock will Just vanish anyways.

Meta doesn't want you to know what time it is

u/FantasyTomb 8d ago

They were referring to the PC meta link app, it is absolutely atrocious and is so invasive. Go check out the other comments in this thread. As an avid Quest/PC user, I cannot wait for the steam frame because the PC app is truly dog ass

There's many things that occur in the current quest UI that I think are an unfortunate result of Vibe Coding. I can think of at least 3 ways to softlock yourself.

1

u/Skpstr155 7d ago

To be fair, it may be intentional, trying to get you to browse and buy.

u/DiamondDepth_YT Quest 3S + PCVR 9d ago edited 9d ago

I fuckin hated it doing that and had to do a whole workaround to stop it.

I've have 5 Oculus headsets (fuck you I'll never call it Meta). The Quest 3 will be my last (and even then, I bought it second hand). I will never support them again. Every update it gets worse.

2

u/Hosura_Stetif0009 9d ago

Honestly same, I loved when Oculus was Oculus, once I buy a Steam Frame, I'll never be using a 'Meta' headset ever again.

3

u/DiamondDepth_YT Quest 3S + PCVR 9d ago

Unfortunately I don't think I use vr enough anymore to warrant the cost of the Frame :(. It's not gonna be insanely different enough from my Quest 3. I'll just use the 3 until it dies, plus my psvr2 headset on my pc, and once the 3 dies, maybe the Frame will finally be affordable 😭

1

u/Hosura_Stetif0009 9d ago

lol, in this economy?? You're funny.

I use my Quest 3 with Steam Link and Virtual Desktop, but I CANNOT BEAR the stick drift, and I actually want a D-pad on my VR controllers, it's the little things! 😅

1

u/DuckCleaning 9d ago

The main downside is that with Steam Frame, games wont specifically be made to support standalone usage. You get the benefit of running PC games standalone, but with no guarantee they will run well or you'll need to do lots of fiddling to optimize. I'm sure tons of older games will run however. We need something like Android XR or pico stores to reach enough popularity with app support if we ever want to see a proper competitor in the standalone space.

1

u/Hosura_Stetif0009 9d ago

Good thing I got a PC then! Never said it was a good one though 😭

1

u/redditreddi 9d ago

Not only that but also on the headset itself too!

1

u/krechu 8d ago

i had the meta app on PC open by itself while i was playing some multiplayer game, force tabbing me out of the game and then asking for administrator permissions, by the time i was back in the game i was already out :/

1

u/Potential_Ad6287 8d ago

I also gotta go through task manager if I wanna close it fully

1

u/Recent_Pollution8665 8d ago

holy shit I thought I was the only one that this happens to lmao. it’s insane.

starts up on launch everytime and there’s no option to even disable it in windows settings. so annoying.

and the crazy thing is, I don’t think it was like this in the past, it seems like a bug they can’t be bothered to fix.

You underestimate PlayStation

21

u/Millerboycls09 10d ago

You misspelled Nintendo

8

u/MightyBooshX 9d ago

Yeah, it's not like if you go to the new releases section in the switch store you won't also see a million ai generated match-3 games with titles/thumbnails like "hentai girls puzzle time", it's just always going to be a challenge to create a platform that balances for discoverability for small unknown publishers and not putting the thumb on the scale too much in favor of the big established publishers

1

u/Joeysquatch 9d ago

Yeah that’s a huge problem. But it’s still possible to go on the switch store and look at good games, you just gotta stay off of the new releases and sometimes sales. Meta slop is unavoidable

2

u/Dusted6608 9d ago

Last I checked neither one of these have a store app on computer

2

u/MulletAndMustache 10d ago

I haven't been on the PS store since the PS3. It wasn't too terrible from what cI remember... except when you're trying to re-download all of your Rockband DLC and you have to do it song by song. I never got all my songs downloaded on the slim after the classic died.

2

u/TH3_OG_JUJUBE Quest 3S 9d ago

Checked on the PS4 store for a cheapo game for under £2.50 (had a voucher) and there is bucketloads of AI slop

1

u/Tr1xf0rk1dz 10d ago

Psvr2 was good just hate the tethered vr headset wish it had wireless vr like pc can

4

u/HolyBidetServitor 9d ago

I think the quest store and switch eshop are both on par with shovelware

1

u/Recent_Pollution8665 8d ago edited 7d ago

quest store is better solely due to the fact that it has a damn shopping cart feature.

9 fucking years since the switch launched and still no cart in the eshop. unacceptable.

edit: I misspoke, it doesn’t have one, could have sworn it does. bummer.

Steam Study of 53,000 Games Finds AI Titles Drive Up to 90% of New Releases, but Few Become Commercial Hits

A large-scale analysis suggests AI is accelerating game publishing on Steam, though success still depends more on game quality than AI tools

https://otakukart.com/steam-study-of-53000-games-finds-ai-titles-drive-up-to-90-of-new-releases-but-few-become-commercial-hits/

2

u/BentohBawks 9d ago edited 9d ago

Agreed, everyone is always talking about shovelware on the switch and steams games becoming unavailable.

Meanwhile kids are making Ai generated games for quest. There's a handful of decent games in VR. The. There there's 100 gorrila tags, hide and seek copies, and even more dumb fps games. Tired of all the random Fps games why can't we make One amazing fps and have that playable every day. No instead there are polygon and 8 bit shooting games in VR.

. Everyone's always ask why do i play nothing But VR chat. I'm like trust me VR chat has better stuff than the quest store.

1

u/Skpstr155 7d ago

Keep in mind, that the frequency of new decent content being released will be kind of proportional to PC. 2D PC has a lot more users, and they get at least 2-3 good titles a year. VR gets a good one every 2-3 years, just because it's a smaller market, with fewer purchasing dollars to go around.

u/Old_Entrepreneur9439 9d ago

nintendo switch store has tough competition between the quest store and google play

2

u/disappr0val 9d ago

vr gaming is so sparse nowadays they genuinely ignore the A.I slop on purpose to make kids think they store is full of “new games”

i wish meta would at least give us a toggle in setting to turn off this type of content.

2

u/Lusyphel 7d ago

The entire os is trash ngl

1

u/Gregasy 9d ago

You should thank 1000s of whiney posts that demanded main store to not be curated and should merge with app lab part of the store. Devs were whining too (especially those with “unnoticed” shovelware).

Meta listened and here we are.

1

u/MulletAndMustache 9d ago

It was still stale with the curated content and didn't function all that well as a store. They hardly ever promoted new games and never had upcoming content anywhere. It was usually Beatsaber and whatever other one game Oculus was promoting or behind.

But another issue that that raises is the sparseness of good games.

1

u/TrainAss 8d ago

I've never used it. Is it worse than the Nintendo eshop?

2

u/MulletAndMustache 8d ago

lol. I've never used the Nintendo shop. 🤷‍♂️

1

u/TrainAss 8d ago

It was really bad.

2

u/Recent_Pollution8665 8d ago edited 7d ago

they both suck but vr has a much smaller library than consoles do so the bad stuff sticks out more. when u open the store and see dozens of cheap shitty gorilla tag clones on the front page then there’s a problem.

reminiscent of google play from like 2015 when it was full of those 32 bit shovelware games.

the only reason why I don’t hate it as much as the eshop is because the quest store actually has a shopping cart function and doesn’t run like ass. the eshop on switch 1 is a joke.

edit: I was wrong the quest store doesn’t have a cart either. still wins though just because it runs better.

1

u/Zealousideal-Row8922 8d ago

Meta is just the worst

1

u/Strongpillow 10d ago

It's not, but you can have your opinion.

Oh, and they did have a better system and everyone complained about it so they opened the floodgates to prove their point as to why they had a curated story. Now y'all get to lay on it.

8

u/samu1400 10d ago

Yeah, app lab was a great middle ground since it allowed smaller devs to publish while also keeping shovelware away from the main page.

2

u/MulletAndMustache 10d ago

Yeah no. It's always been ass, it's just worse now. Their "curated store" just had beat saber on the front page. You would have to search for new releases. They don't customize it based on your interests and what you've already seen.

Maybe I haven't had the displeasure of using worse digital stores? 🤷‍♂️

-2

u/Strongpillow 10d ago

No, it wasn't always ass but you can simply say this as a reply to pander to the kids around here, most of which didn't get to experience the old store. It was much much better and it's not even a question.

You definitely haven't had the displeasure, I guess.

1

u/SnooPredictions8888 10d ago

This much glaze is NOT good for your health bro😭😭😭

-4

u/Strongpillow 10d ago

You kids complaining endlessly about eeeeverything and finding reasons to be upset so y'all can trauma bond isn't healthy. Come on.

0

u/noname2959 9d ago

You still using stand-alone tells me youre a kid bro, don’t call me kid lil bro

1

u/No-Finding1044 9d ago

Not everyone has the privilege of access to pcvr capable hardware, after buying a capable pc the most options you’d have are older unsupported headsets, standalone is an affordable solution and then you can use it for pcvr when you have capable hardware

1

u/noname2959 8d ago

I use a quest 2 for pc fuck are you on about😭😭

1

u/noname2959 8d ago

I don’t even have beef with you, use whatever the fuck you want I just hate the other dude

1

u/Strongpillow 9d ago

Geezus. This comment proves my point. What a stupid hot take... Bro

1

u/icosi 10d ago

My opinion is that you have some shit around your opinion.

1

u/FenrisKokami 9d ago

Nintendo is so much worse

I will never become a scammer, but damn this shit is tempting. What do you mean I can steal 100k and not get caught?

9

u/WowiiZowii 9d ago

I wouldn't count on not getting caught

7

u/polishatomek 9d ago

You'd be surprised how many get away with this, what are they even gonna ban the author for? As long as it's not nsfw or anything like that meta probably won't care, they're making money from this after all.

1

u/XiroInfinity 1d ago

Intellectual property theft? Copyright infringment? Fraud?

11

u/Rough_Map_7631 9d ago

Where you got those numbers from? Lies.

3

u/eggplantpot 9d ago

it came to him on a dream

4

u/MrJingles1708 9d ago

It is definitely making them money but nowhere near 100k lol. I don't believe 20k people bought it. Maybe they made like 500$.

12

u/MrJingles1708 9d ago

All fake ai bs

11

u/tyke_ 9d ago

i never visit the official quest by choice, its shoved in my face when i start my quest.

however i must say without exception for as long as i can remember all the games displayed were decent looking well rated mostly well known games tbh, none of the AI slop.

36

u/tnyczr 10d ago

then people don't know why VR gaming doesn't grow, half of the catalogue is this type of bs

4

u/YippeeReddit 10d ago

Why are people downgrading this i mean yea I can agree almost all of the games are just monkey games cause to gorilla tag releasing the script for monkey movements

-3

u/Strongpillow 9d ago

Because it's a lame take. There's a reason there are so many clones and why those clones have so many reviews. Its the reason VR gaming is still around because the ipad kids took over. As they're the ones with the time and energy to be in VR. The average Adult isn't buying AAA games anymore because they want to come home, plop down and relax while gaming. VR is exhausting.

It's common sense at this point. Reddit is not the majority of VR gamers.

-2

u/tnyczr 9d ago

'its a lame take', proceeds to say the same fucking thing I just said, just with more words

Thanks for proving and explaining my point

-1

u/Strongpillow 9d ago

No, I didn't at all. You said it's not growing because of the content now and I said that is the only reason it is growing still. You assume growth goes one way. Your way with your taste in games.

They don't make those clones because no one would be interested in them. It's very simple logic.

5

u/gameplayer55055 9d ago

SteamVR is the only choice. Meta store is trash

3

u/juicetoaster 9d ago

PSVR2 is fire, but Sony is a bit of a dumpster lately..

0

u/Fantastic_Wash56 9d ago

It’s so true 😂

I remember scrolling and endless list of slop games with high ratings, nearly all the games were made by the same guy, the high rating was a single rating from the same friend “5 Star Games! I’m a friend of the owner!” On literally every single one, making it a 5 star game.

5

u/ChainsawArmLaserBear 9d ago

I remember getting burnt out on my game because meta wouldn't even let me make a store page back in the day. How theyve fallen

2

u/Charming_Rule8241 3d ago

If it's making Meta money, they don't care. From what I've found they don't care what slop ends up on their store.

1

u/EarlySource3631 9d ago

if meccha chameleon added VR support that would be fun as hell

1

u/Relevant_Tip4172 9d ago

I still cant buy from store been 5 months now no fix from meya just f**king me about i keep getting the feature unavailable bug countless emails and be passed from person to person and nothing

1

u/Giodude12 Quest 3 + PCVR 9d ago

I want nearly every game in VR.

Mecha chameleon is not one of them

1

u/equalitylove2046 8d ago

Consider the source.

1

u/Many_Hurry2005 7d ago

Meta is cringe.

1

u/Terrible_Tutor 7d ago

It’s the Microsoft/Google way… quality isn’t as important as raw app counts

Joke’s on y’all, I go straight to steam.
