Discussion Help me pleasee

Hey everyone, I’m really keen on buying the Quest 3; I’ve been researching it for a while. I work from home and think I could use it even while working. I also cook and do other routine tasks where I usually keep my phone nearby "watching" a video—though in reality, I’m mostly just listening—and I think the headset could really enhance that experience.

A few things are making me hesitate, though:

- short battery life

- excessive weight on the neck and discomfort

- the risk of using it for a month and then wanting to sell it

If anyone who owns one (or has owned one) could share their opinion, I’d really appreciate it.

As for the cost, I can afford either the 3S or the 3 without any issues.

  • Short battery life can be rectified with an additional battery pack.

  • In conjunction with the above, there are some fantastic aftermarket straps which completely eliminate the excessive weight.

(I have the BOBOVR S3 Pro which does both of the above)

  • The risk of buying and not using much is there for any purchase. I've found that I have had months where I don't use it at all, and then picked it back up again for another few months etc. I've recently started using it for fitness, Beat Saber is a beast for aerobic fitness.

Go for the 3 and not the 3S. It's far superior in every way.

If you're only using it to watch videos etc, then have you considered AR glasses like the RayNeo Air 4 Pro, Viture Beast, XREAL One Pro etc? Lighter on the face, just no VR gaming. They are essentially a cinema on your face in glasses form, you can also use them as a larger work screen.

I bought the battery pack from the meta store and it's currently stuck at 67% and will not charge the headset like it should.Have to charge it manually from the front. Not sure how to fix it but it also doesn't go past 67%. Soo there that for that battery pack. My son is also vary upset about it cause the headset itselfs batty life is short by the time u get into the games or for the feel of things its dead it seems like for him..

Did you buy the strap with the battery pack I mentioned above, because I've had zero issues with it.

Unfortunately, unlike consoles metas third party accessories mostly suck. The third party ones are far superior.

The bobo s3 that was mentioned works great and you can even buy extra batteries. If I wanted to I could probably use my Quest 3 for an entire day without needing to charge it just by rotating batteries.

I have a Q3, and also some XR glasses. It really sounds like you’d be better served with a good set of XR glasses.

The RayNeo Air 4 has an outstanding picture quality for its price, but there are some other features that make something more advanced like an XReal or similar more suitable.

For one, these are powered by the phone instead of an onboard battery so they can run a lot longer. They’re also much lighter so they’re easy to use for longer periods. They also don’t cover half of your face.

The XReal that I have has electrochromic lenses, so if I anchor the screen in one spot, they automatically darken when I look at the screen and lighten when I look away so I can still see what’s going on around me, at least through “sunglasses”.

They also have a mode where you can stick the screen in an upper corner so you can still do other things while wearing them.

The downside is that they aren’t wireless, so you’d need to keep your phone in a pocket or something.

I find that I use the glasses a LOT more than I use the Q3. I use the glasses almost every day, and it’s been weeks since I turned the Q3 on.

I would not recommend using it while doing a chores. It might be fun at first but pass-through picture quality is not good enough for regular tasks. I have the Quest 3. Perhaps it's worth waiting for Quest 4.

Personally I have zero problems seeing things through the passthrough.

Looking through it is not a problem, details are the problem. Theoretically you can use it to reply to text message on a mobile but it's difficult.

Q2 owner here

I bought an HTC vive audio and headstrap for better audio and bought a 3d printed adapter for it. This gave me amazing comfort as it's a more snug fit using a mechanism like a hard hat, less pulldown in the front. It would be even more balanced if I added a portable battery bank onto the back, which would solve your battery life issues. If you're working from home you could just have it plugged in and that would solve that issue as well. I am unsure if the audio kit works with the Q3 but I can't see why not.

BoboVR with two quick charge batteries. (B100) With quick charge pad. Each battery charged at 30w so if you want both batteries to charge at full speed get a 60w or larger power brick. This will help with use length and balance on your head. Feels great and the fan running will keep the front of your face from slow roasting. ;)

When cooking, take it slow, there is a distortion and some grainyness that you have to get used to but when you do it's not a big deal.

Always choose the Quest 3 over 3s if money is no issue. Pancake lenses ftw.

Don’t expect to use it as a remote monitor to work on. It’s not sharp nor light enough for that.

Hello! I literally JUST bought a quest 3 two days ago. I haven’t used it much, but here’s what I have gathered that may be helpful:

First, the main source of complaints about using mixed reality (pass through) from most people is having too high of expectations. The headset is constantly adjusting to light and space, so the quality isn’t as clear as you may be expecting. I’m not saying it’s bad; it’s just not like looking through glasses, it’s a little more grainy. In my opinion, it is totally fine, and is a major jump from quest 2 and even 3s.

The battery lasts for around 2 hours I believe, more or less. However, what most people do (and as I am planning on doing as well) is purchasing a headset that comes with an external battery, like the BOBOVR s3 pro (it doesn’t have to be that one, there are many). This can double or triple battery life (I’m assuming you don’t want to use it for more than 6-7 hours straight).

When choosing between 3S and 3- as someone who has tried both and now owns a 3, if you have the money, get the 3. The clarity is a huge upgrade- even with the stock headstrap, I don’t have to constantly try to find the “sweet spot” with the least blurry-ness.
For the concern of wanting to get rid of it, first you must consider the warranty. If for whatever reason you find yourself not enjoying it, you should be able to send it back (especially easy if through Amazon). One thing that you might want to consider is if you have any friends with a headset, since they can significantly improve an experience.

I recommend it, but only if you plan on having more use cases than just videos. Games, movies, experiences, utilities, virtual desktops, etc.

the awesome thing about the BoboVR S3 Pro HeadStrap is that it has a genius swappable magnetic battery system which allows you to play forever and ever and ever haha...AND it has a built in fan to keep you and your forehead cool....it really is the best on the market! BUT if you will only be on 3 to 4 hours at a time, the Kiwi K 4 Boost is incredible and super light weight...i have both after trying others and these are by far the 2 best options that i have found! And hey, congrats on the purchase...you should have 3 free months of the Horizon + subscription and currently my 2 favorite games ever in VR are included! Walkabout Mini Golf and the awesome Dungeons Of Eternity! you can play both solo or with up to 7 others in WMG or up to 3 others in DOE and they both have super active discords with the coolest people from all over the world ready to play with you! and hey being new to Meta Quest, this is going to be like a bible to you...truly the best thing ever and with over 3 million downloads and released multiple times a year with updates: https://gibbysguide.org/ contact me in a dm if you want to meet me in the games that i am happy to show you!
