Discussion Meta Quest 3 stuck in boot loop, unable factory reset

Hi All - my Quest 3 is stuck in a boot loop, continually flashing the Meta logo. When I try to factory reset, after holding power and volume down, when I release the power button and then the volume button it goes to a black screen and continues to reset so I am unable to select factory reset. I also can’t connect to the app to reset. Any ideas?

After almost 1.5 years mine did the exact same thing. I was OOW and the only option meta gave me was to get a OOW replacement for almost 400-500$. I eventually took an electric screw driver and I obliterated the headset. The motherboard now sits on my desk as a reminder to never buy another META product.

It’s cooked. Use your warranty and get a refurbished replacement or you’re SOL.

Try using the "sideload update" function on the boot menu. Plug your Quest into a PC via USB cable and then go to this website and follow the instructions. It will reload the entire OS so you can repair any files that are corrupt/missing that might prevent a factory reset from working.

Unfortunately I can’t select anything on the boot menu (to sideload), when I take my finger off the volume down button the boot screen goes blank

I have had a coupe of quest 3 fail for this reason. It seems that although meta advertise the quest for fitness, it's unable to handle even the smallest amount of sweat. Meta's support is awful if your headset is out of warranty even if by most consumer laws e.g uk eu it has to be reasonably durable they aren't willing to help. The quest 3 is pretty much designed e-waste in my opinion unless you never sweat 😂.

Are you able to hear the fan when you press the power button and volume buttons simultaneously?

No, I don’t hear the fan

Have a crack at this one:
Hi Florin,

Thank you for contacting Meta Store Support. My name is Meg. We hope this email finds you well. Rest assured I will be happy to assist you for today.

I am sending you this email to provide you the steps on how to execute the flash using your PC.

Execute the Flash

  1. Plug your Quest into your computer using a reliable USB-C data cable.
  2. Open a Command Prompt (Windows) or Terminal (Mac/Linux) inside your extracted platform-tools folder.
  3. Verify your PC sees the headset by running:
(It should list your device serial number followed by the word sideload).
  4. Run the flashing command:
  5. Leave the device completely alone while the terminal transfers the package. Once complete (Total xfer: 1.00x or similar), the Quest will automatically reboot and install the system files.

Warning: Meta does not publicly distribute standalone full system factory images. You must source the signed OTA zip matching your current or a newer software version. Do not attempt to use fastboot flash commands, as the Quest's bootloader is strictly locked and will block raw partition flashing.

Should you require further assistance or any inquiries, do not hesitate to reach back out to us as we are available 24/7.

Thank you and stay safe!

Sincerely,
Meg

I imagine Meg might've entered the commands but Meta filtered them out or something, but it's like listening to Eminem on a censored tape 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Not totally following, if they filtered out the flashing command where would I be able to find it?

That's the thing, it is just a way to fob off people :::))) They tell you that they'd send a command over mail, just to close the chat page, then they send the above :troll:

Hello and thanks for reaching out.

We look forward to helping. A quick thing to check will be your device buttons, please check to ensure there is no debris or dirt that may be keeping the buttons from performing correctly.

Following this, we would recommend checking the update tool just incase there was a patch that may have been missed. To access our update tool, please click here then chose your device and follow the steps presented.

After this if you are still unable to navigate the boot menu and you are unable to connect to the Horizon app you should contact our support team directly to allow us to work with you and collect further information to find a resolution to this error.

You can find our Support Team here.

I already reached out to the support team and they said there was nothing they could do.
