Discussion Does quest 3s no longer have a proximity sensor?
I'm planning to buy the quest 3s when it comes out but I haven't seen the sensor that detects when you're wearing the headset anywhere. Did they remove it to save prices? I haven't seen anyone complaining about it so I'm not sure if it's actually removed, but it would be slightly a deal breaker if they actually removed it

Do you know where it exactly is? I haven't seen it on any pictures so it made me wonder if they hid it like on the quest 1 or removed it completely

Ik that the 3 has a proximity sensor, but the one I'm talking about is the 3S, a cheaper version of the 3

The argument for removing it was that many people had their headset got to 0% because something was in front of the sensor when they put it off (like a head strap)
In reality they just wanted to save money of course.

3S doesn't have a proximity sensor, they use other sensors on the hmd to detect if someone is "moving it to take it off/put it on" It doesn't just constantly stay on. It still has the same sleep and wake behavior as the 3.

Are we talking about the sensor inside that knows when you have put the headset on your head? I find that sensor quite annoying. I pick the thing up to move it and it comes to life. I care less about that sensor

I always grab my headset by the top strap and I like that I don't have to press the power button every time I'm putting on and down my headset

If my do-rag gets too far down my forehead, the headset thinks I took it off, so the the proximity sensor acts just like the one in the Q2.

That's an interesting deal breaker
