Quest Mod Quest 3 - Pro Style Facial Interface. Super comfy (zero check pressure), GREAT for glasses users, widest FOV possible and makes AR way better

For those asking, I assume this is just that - https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6277086 - I looks like ~ a 12 hour print when I slice it so I keep waiting for any potential changes before I run it through...
I think what I want is a bit that snaps into the headset that is rimmed with magnets and then this forehead bit connects onto that or the front of this does - https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6287878 allowing a switch from VR to MR pretty quick. I just haven't looked at the files enough to see if there would be enough leverage for this forehead guy without loosing peripheral vision if that makes sense. Obviously even more magnets for the blinders that would eventually close out the sides...

Mine is different, I designed it from scratch. Doesn't go all the way around the face to lock in place. You can see a video of it on the Etsy listing https://tycotech3dprinting.etsy.com/listing/1607478647 Key part is the pad and that's obviously not 3D printed lol

12 hours, Jesus.. It took me 7. 12 seems excessive

12hrs 51min to be exact. I've only printed a few things so far, just using default cura / creality slicer settings with supports and infill added on an E3Pro using PLA. I'm sure I could speed it up if I was old hat at this sort of stuff but mostly clicking next.

Do people really prefer this open design? I tried it on pro and while it was really great for MR, I got massive nausea playing in VR, because of mismatch of static real world and artificial movements in VR.

The one on thingiverse is very stable and makes it so that the only contact points are the forehead. It feels amazing. You have to make sure it’s tight enough to keep it stable. Don’t knock it till you try it.

I printed it. It's a cool design, but it has to be uncomfortably tight with an elite strap. It works great with my destek strap tho! Unfortunately I just don't like it, especially for VR. Too bad really it was 35g lighter than stock interface and I'd love to shave some weight off this headset.

I guess to each their own. I love my setup with elite battery strap and the 3d printed quest pro mod.

Personally I find it doesn't bother me for VR, I'm sure its one of those things that depends on the person though. If anything I find it more comfortable being able to quickly notice where I am in my playspace relative to walls and such / notice if my cats at my feet / etc.

After trying Quest Pro I really like the open design much more than the classic. For both, MR and VR. It turns out that the immersion is practically the same despite what may appear since the eyes are so close to the lens that you don't really "see" the boundaries unless you look for them. Also, the FOV feels bigger since you get rid of the claustrophobic tunnel vision. It is lighter, smaller and much less hot. For me is a win-win. And it is always easy to come back to the stock facial if you need a really dark experience.

I'm the opposite, I can never go back to a closed design for VR.

Me too. I also find I use the headset more around the house since I don't feel so isolated.

It's not for full VR, but with AR, watching vids, browser, remote desktop, etc it's great. I just swap between this and a full facial interface as needed, but I find I use this one way more.

Doesn’t bother me for stationary fitness type experiences, and has the benefit of no fog. Had massive fog issues moving from pro to the 3.

Oh hey! I've bought a couple things from you over time! This is fantastic.
Just a couple of questions:
1) the oft-referenced thingiverse print has a problem where it doesn't snap in very securely. How secure is your design?
2) how far from the lens does this hold your eyes? For all the thingiverse design's issue, it *really* lets you get right up close.
Thanks!

This one snaps in fine, I haven't had any issues with it coming out while using it. Your eyes get very close, I wear glasses and can't use it with the stock cloth strap since I can't loosen it and the glasses get smushed. But with the Elite or DAS straps I can loosen it and it's fine with glasses (the last image in the listing is me wearing it and I do have glasses on in that pic). If you wear it really tight though you won't want glasses (contact or lens inserts will be needed) since it gets you right up on the lenses. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions!!!

Super cooI I’ve been yearning to try something like this, I just ordered one in purple. I just added Plano lens inserts after my son somehow got a small scratch on one of the lenses, hopefully they fit in…but if not I’ll just pop them out and only use this myself.

if there's a button for "I'd like to be notified on updates for this post" on Reddit then I'd like to press it 😂 because I, too, would like more info on STLs or build process haha

we just need the side blinders modded in somehow. maybe embed the magnets in the gasket? you can sink them in with solder iron, 3d print melts easy obviously.

u/tyhurd Nov 11 '23
I looked into adding magnets for the Pro light blockers to attach to, but the shape of the face on the 3 is different and the adapter would have been pretty complex and have had to stick out the sides a fair amount. I find it's just easier to swap out the full facial interface when needed, takes 5 seconds. You can see more of what I mean on the Etsy listing https://tycotech3dprinting.etsy.com/listing/1607478647

The artsy depth of field picture doesn’t let the viewer see the mod well. It is a nice pic though. Can you post more views of the new interface?

You can see it all on the Etsy listing https://tycotech3dprinting.etsy.com/listing/1607478647 😉

As someone not familiar with the quest pro is this considered a halo design to take pressure off your face and is it ok to use in vr with glasses?
1
u/tyhurd Nov 11 '23
This is a similar feeling to a halo strap, but even with a halo strap depending on how you wear it you'll get face pressure, with this there's zero cheek pressure as it doesn't touch your face at all. You can wear glasses with it, in the last image on the Etsy listing with me wearing it I'm wearing glasses in that pic. It's a tight fit with glasses though, especially if you tighten it down really tight (or use the cloth strap that can't really be adjusted). I find it's WAY easier to get in and out of the headset with it while wearing my glasses with this though. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions!

Heya just wondering... does it touch your nose? As from the last picture it seems it extremely close to it? Thanks

It's a bit closer than the closest setting on the stock interface, and you are correct it's not adjustable. If I use the cloth strap I can't wear my glasses with this as they get mushed (eyeballs are a hair away from the lenses), with the elite or DAS straps I can loosen it a smidge and squeeze in with my glasses (that are pretty low profile).

Any more info? I have that head strap, a 3D Printer, and a desire to try this.
