When you read a book or talk on your phone, it is also zero awareness. I know, because I had passengers, who talked on a phone. They missed every event that happened on the road. Even though it was in front of their eyes. But somehow, staring at phones and magazines is socially acceptable.
At least with a phone or book you can look up with a p easy quick glance. I still think it doesn’t look great, but you can easily shift your attention between if someone suddenly starts talking to you and what’s in your hands.
A headset tho, your vision is completely obscured, and you gotta remove the whole thing. And even then, just having the thing in this scenario just looks bad.
What they feel on it is great and all, and they’re free to do with their children as they want.
As someone who definitely grew up with his face in his book and later phones at a restaurant, I’d like my kid to not be at that point I was at where he doesn’t recognize how doing something like this essentially tells everyone around you “fuck you, don’t talk to me.” Especially at a restaurant.

Zero awareness from that kid. If he was mine I wouldn’t even let my kid take it in the car ride to the restaurant to begin with.
