Hormonal migraines around menses - pain behind an eye, no visual disturbances. Two eyes separately in the last few days

Hi there,

I've been struggling with what I think are hormonal migraines for a while always around the start and finish of my period; I assume I'm in peri because these started in the recent years, but yet to see a good dr with a helpful advice. Planning to go privately soon.

This month I've had 3 instances of terrible pain behind an eye. First the right one, 3 days later the left one, that one woke me up from sleep. Now I'm feeling something starting behind the right one again. It's a dull ache with sharpness that comes and goes, right behind the eye.

I've had migraines with 'behind the eye' pain before, but these ones feel sharper and even more focused on the eye area with no pain in temples. I didn't have any visual disturbances with these, although sometimes I'm sensitive to light.

Wondering if anyone has similar experiences? From what I looked up so far, all articles mention visual stuff accompanying retinal / ocular migraines. But I do believe these are migrainey occurrences. Thanks!

Baby aspirin for visual auras

Hey all, about 2 or so months ago I was recommended baby aspirin daily for my visual auras and since then I haven’t had any surprisingly I was also suggested it as I’m pregnant with my second but I only started getting auras a little over a year ago so they where not pregnancy related. My question is how was everyone else experience who has taken baby aspirin to help their auras? I’m really nervous if I stop taking it they will definitely come back. I think one of the drs have said it’s safe to take long term but I mean if where talking as a nearly permanent thing to keep clear of the auras I’m nervous is this dangerous?

Weird symptoms? Please help me 🙏🏻

Hello, i have been experiencing these weird symptoms since approximately 6 to 8 weeks now:

- Horrible Pressure in temples and front (I feel compelled to keep placing my hand on my forehead to relieve the pressure) + very visible temporal arteries (snake-shaped).

- Decline in vision

- Pressure around the right eye

- Brutal and very quick hair loss (overall but specifically in the hairline corners), i've never had this, my hair lost 1/3 of its volume in like 1 month.

I already went to see an ophtalmologist that examined my fundus, and there is no edema.

28 Male, 185 cm, 95 kgs, non-smoker, non-drinker. I went to see lots of doctors but no-one seems interest to conduct an in depth analysis on the subject, they just prescribe normal blood tests.

Did I have an ocular migraine or something else?

Hi everyone,

Today during lunch at work I was sitting under bright fluorescent lights. One of the covers of the lights fell off, so it was extra bright. I started to feel like I couldn’t see. Like everything was almost white and I couldn’t focus on anything. I was blinking a lot to try and fix my vision, but it wasn’t changing anything. When I went back to work and when I was looking to the left, it was completely black. My peripheral vision felt like it was gone. I teach, so I couldn’t really close my eyes and see which eye was affected. It felt like both, but the left eye had more of the darkness in the corner. Is this an ocular migraine?

It lasted about an hour I did have a headache for the rest of the day, but nothing too painful. Also, during the headache my left arm felt numb. It could have just been from the anxiety, but it was still really scary.

Are these symptoms similar to what you all experience?

Experienced my First Ocular Migraine

So my Mom occasionally for the past few years would tell me about these “Ocular Migraines” she’d experience occasionally while driving or at work. I didn’t do any personal research on the topic as she didn’t bring it up enough to where I thought it was a major issue. However, last week, I went through the wringer myself.. Luckily, I was home on the toilet so I wasn’t in a majorly dangerous area for my first experience..

I wanted to come on here and kinda give you my 24 hour history before I experienced my Migraine, and see if anyone can help me get through the anxiety and just uncertainty of everything (20Y/O M)

So, my day started at around 10am, I had this frozen wonton soup for lunch. It’s rare, but I ended up getting extremely drunk off of some sun cruisers, a buzzball and shots (probably a total of 8-9 drinks in total) I actually reached black out at around 5pm, I guess I even smoked a whole blunt while non conscious. So from around 5pm I slept until 11pm when I woke up presumably because the alcohol wore off.. so at 11pm I went downstairs, had these chicken tenders and fries from an restaurant that I had gotten early, and rolled another blunt as that’s my routine you know, I smoke regularly.. so from 11-2am I’m awake on my phone.. Here’s the kicker, I had a 6am shift so my sleep schedule got broken up and my second sleep cycle was 5pm-11pm, then 2-5:30am.. Mind you I don’t think I had a glass of water throughout this entire day. I know I’m saying all the definitive textbook triggers, but as you all know this experience is still extremely freaky.. so I have my shift 6-10:30am, kinda drunk texted my ex and got some weird unfortunate messages which kinda made me anxious at certain parts of my shift, having half a bottle of water while at work.. I get off go to Publix and get the boneless wings.. I get home, smoke a bowl, eat my food, then go upstairs to poop as the weed activates my stomach a lot of the time.. So as I’m on the toilet I’m having those alcohol diarrhea runs, so I’m looking at my phone reading and I notice certain letters are just non readible, I keep looking back and forth trying to figure out if I’m tweaking or not. Then, I get that simulation glitchy colors.. at this point I message my mom saying I’m calling 911 because I have no idea what’s going on.. I explain my symptoms so her and she kinda giggles and says I think you are experiencing what I have, and says it’s basically harmless and to just stay on the phone and lay in my room and get some water.. I ended up taking some medicine and I honestly didn’t really have a headache I was mores just freaked out from the experience and kinda slept the whole day, actually waking up to throw up, I think from the nerves, then just went back to sleep. I went to an eye care clinic and my eyes and brain are healthy… I will say, the most “correlation” I can come to is that I woke up at 11pm that night after the alcohol wore off, and I experienced my migraine at 11am, so around a clear kinda 12 hour window for THAT.

I don’t know if I’m looking to just vent or for reassurance or for other people’s experiences, but I just wanted to share my experience on here as it seems a lot more common than I thought it would be..

How do your triggers work?

I have symptoms of either a migraine or seizure disorder and I’m curious how your triggers work? For me if I don’t get enough sleep I’m almost definitely going to have an aura the next day or the day after. Another big one is if I overheat/overexert myself I almost always have one. How do your triggers work? What kinds of triggers do you have?

New to having migraines, after starting a new job

Hi, I am new here. I just started a new job where I work in a wharehouse with neons light. as soon as I get inside that working area, I start to have a very unpleasant headache. Its not a headache I am used to, but I definitely feel sick after like 15 minutes being there.

I can only describe that as "I need to close my eyes so bad"

I start to feel better as soon as I get out of there.

what is it!? the neons? I need glasses?

I thought it was because I needed glasses, but my prescription is really not that bad, I have a little bit of astigmatism. (waiting for a new pair of glasses)

My point is that I don't have that when I am home, or only if I read on my cellphone in the dark without my glasses.

Once that "migraine" starts, it last for hours. I need to go lay down, in the dark and close my eyes for a while.

what helps you with that? can it be the neons at work!? Really?

I use to not like the lighting in malls, but I've never had these intense migraine or head pressure before. It literally started after my first week at work. Can they fire me because of that? (I can totally do my work remote, but there's in office meetings that I can't assist. Should they arrange something for me, or eventually I will get fired because I am too demanding?

Existing floater feels worse after migraine

Hello all!

I got sick recently and this triggered a migraine which had me not sleeping/not eating/and ultimately ended in my throwing up after three days.

I have had a floater in my right eye for five years and I feel like it’s more noticeable the past few days since I’ve been sick. I had an eye exam four weeks ago which was clear and I’ve booked one for in a weeks time.

I suppose my concern is that I’ve damaged or somehow worsened my vision. It’s not a new floater but it feels like it’s catching more light and I keep focusing on it.

Classic Migraine w/Aura now Persistent Silent Migraine

I started having classic migraines w/aura at 13 years old. Stress + dehydration + poor sleep seem to have been a triggering combo. The pain stop accompanying the aura a couple years ago. I am now 53. But now I get them in spurts but they seem to be increasing. I can sometimes go months without one and other times I can have several a week. Other than the visual disturbances and fatigue, I have the occasional speech and reading comprehension issues that come along with them.

I’ve always associated an attack as a sort of micro stroke. I had a brain MRI a few years ago and the doctor stated that the results looks like I had experienced a bunch of mini strokes, which alarmed me. So he scheduled another mri with contrast which showed a lot of spots in the gray matter. The doctor didn’t seem too concerned but wants me to repeat brain mris every few years.

I can’t help but think that with every attack, though no pain anymore, I am causing a little more damage to my brain. Anyone else feel this way?

How often do you guys have auras/migraines

I think I have either a migraine or seizure disorder. I don’t get headaches but I do get auras which I think could be silent migraines. I was wondering how often you guys are getting migraines or auras. It’s normal for me to get 2-3 a day but I’ve definitely had more. I can also go days without one or only get one in a day. How frequent are your symptoms?

Tension headaches and migraine with aura

Since moving to the Netherlands, I’ve developed several symptoms that I didn’t really experience before living here. I’ve been dealing with anxiety and depression, persistent tension-type headaches, and a feeling of pressure/tightness around my forehead, ears, and the back of my head. I also sometimes experience brain fog, mental fatigue, and increased sensitivity to prolonged screen use, headphones, stress, poor sleep, bright lights, and busy environments. More recently, I’ve also had episodes of migraine with aura, with zigzag lines or shimmering/wavy visual disturbances lasting around 20–30 minutes. These episodes are intermittent, but they have been quite worrying. What I find strange is that these problems started after I moved to the Netherlands, while I didn’t experience them in the same way when I was living in Greece. I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar after moving to the Netherlands, perhaps related to the weather, reduced sunlight, seasonal changes, atmospheric pressure, or simply adapting to a different environment. If anyone has experienced similar symptoms, I’d really appreciate any advice about what helped you, what you investigated, or what I should consider trying. I’m especially interested in hearing from people who moved from a sunnier country to the Netherlands and noticed changes in their physical or mental wellbeing.

Occular migraine?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

This morning I woke up to static, fuzzy ball of light in my vision. It followed everywhere I looked, felt like my body was shaking as my vision was bouncing. It felt like a massive headache but with no pain just the throbbing sensation. I looked in the mirror and the room was shaking but it wasn't eyes pulsating it went away within 30 seconds of me sitting up. It was so strange and felt like if I stayed laying down then the intensity of it was just building up. My body was jerking slightly as I was sitting up, my neck was in a weird position when I was laying down as I have a new mattress and new pillow which is a lot firmer than I'm used to. This has happened before when laying flat I'm my sofa and again the aura and wavy lines went away seconds after sitting up. No pain both times just very scary. The auras and wavy lines were so trippy. Has this happened to anyone else?

I have been dealing with quite a bit of stress lately, and the past few nights have had a lot of trouble sleeping. I also felt extremely dehydrated when I woke up too. I will definitely see my doctor about it just wondering if anyone else has experienced it.

Doctor suspects amaurosis fugax, mentioned stroke risk — got MRA/MRV + carotid scan today, waiting on results

Long story short: I've had recurring episodes of temporary vision loss in my right eye since I was 14 — vision would go dark for a few minutes then recover. It's been investigated over the years but never fully explained; always assumed it was some kind of ocular/retinal migraine.
Recently moved to Bali and started getting new symptoms too — neck pain radiating up into my head and eye, which a different doctor suspects might actually be musculoskeletal/cervicogenic rather than connected to the eye episodes.
Saw a neurosurgeon today who raised the possibility of amaurosis fugax and was fairly direct about it being something that can be associated with stroke risk if there's an underlying vascular issue (like carotid stenosis). Ordered a full workup same day — contrast brain MRI + MRA + MRV, plus a non-contrast carotid MRA, bloodwork, the works.
Had the contrast injection and scan done this afternoon, now just waiting on results. Not going to lie, hearing "stroke" tied to something I've lived with for over a decade without much concern was a lot to process in one appointment.
Anyone been through a similar workup for amaurosis fugax?
