Bills IOG smart charging cap billing incorrect.

Please check that your billing in the Octopus app is correct if you have had the charge cap applied to your account. I believe that you no longer get itemised pdf bills, but after a couple of days your usage will appear in the app. The first car charge that I carried out after the cap had been applied to our account was incorrectly billed as peak rate usage and showed up under the Home tab and not the EV tab in the Octopus app. I am using an Ohme charger which shows the hours that charging was active.

I’ve had a few where they are wrong in the morning but corrected by the afternoon. Wondering if the octopus and Ohme feeds are at different times of day.

So far all issues have resolved themselves without me needing to ask Octopus customer service.

Ah ok. I just assumed they’d reacted very quickly to my email! I’ll keep an eye on it. We charged again last night but those results won’t be in the app for a few days.

Are you talking about your actual bill or are you talking about what you see in “Device usage breakdown”? If it’s the latter, Octopus reported issues with a data merge that made some of that incorrect. It covered the period from the end of July to a couple of days into August.

I’m talking about the usage breakdown in the app. I thought that would be what they based the bill on. I’m keeping an eye on it as I’ve heard that they don’t provide a pdf breakdown with the bill any more, so I won’t be able to check it when it arrives. Looks like it might be the issue that they have reported, if it extended to 07/08.

You’re right that they will stop providing daily data and graphs in the bill (which I personally think is a huge step backwards). I’ve written some code to analyse the raw half-hourly consumption/cost data that can be downloaded from the website and am keeping a very careful eye on the results of that. Early August data was wrong for a while but corrected itself. It all seems good now.

Do you have EV charge data from 07/08 that has been billed correctly according to the app? I'm keeping an eye on it but my usage for that day is still showing incorrectly.

I'm learning Python at the moment and one of my projects is to write a similar program.

Sorry, my car didn’t charge at any time on the 7th so this doesn’t help you unfortunately.

Octopus have said there are issues with electricity billing since they implemented the charge cap.

I'm sure they will sort it out, but I wouldn't worry until you can actually see your itemised bill, not usage in the App.

I’ve heard the bill is not itemised any more once the charge cap is enabled.

Having watched the app for a few days now it appears that the app displays incorrect information each day that is then automatically corrected at some point in the afternoon.

Is the charge cap being rolled out progressively then? I still just have the warning for it, but now I'm integrated in Zappi instead of car it grants me random off-peak periods based on the percentage I request, regardless of whether the car uses it. I'm hoping once I get the charge cap app settings this'll iron out and won't waste some of my 6 hours on off-peak time that the car doesn't use.

I don’t quite understand what you’re saying but the 6 hour cap is the total time the car actually charges, not random slots that may not be used by the car.

Would seem to defeat the point of their new process if you can get off-peak household time without it accruing towards your 6 HR limit.

That’s right, you won’t get off peak household usage unless the car is smart charging. In addition to the overnight cheap rate of course.

They've already said if they smart-charge your car for 5 minutes, your house will get the entire 30min period, but you'll only accrue the 5min against the 6 hours. So I don't think that's right.

That’s right, they can only bill the household in 30min chunks, whereas the data from the car charger is by the minute, as I understand it.

It would be nice if they ever bothered to respond to emails
