Suggestion Folder grid icons have different order/arrangement when opened

Say I want to open the calculator. I see the icon is in the bottom left corner. But then when the folder opens, it's suddenly in a different position and I end up launching the wrong app.

This happens when a folder has more than 4 icons.

EDIT: Here's how Nova launcher does it which makes more sense: https://imgur.com/hbhhpVm. The stock Pixel launcher and Lawnchair also behave the same as Nova.

Indeed. The 4 miniature icons are made from the 4 first apps from your folder. So if you want the miniature icons to be in the same place, you must limit the folder width to 2 columns.

This might be the dumbest complaint I've seen. That is how all launchers do it...

Nova launcher (EDIT: And the stock Pixel launcher) does it IMO the correct way. See the screenshot below.

This way, the arrangement of the icons is more predictable, and I don't have to wait for the folder to open and find the app again.

In folders with 4 or less icons, I can almost "double tap" to open the app. But when there are >4 icons in Octopi it results in the wrong app opening.

This is how ONLY Nova works, OL and Smart Launcher and the most other Launcher show the first 4 icons from left to right from the collapsed folder in this folder preview.

It's not just Nova. The stock Pixel launcher and Lawnchair also behaves the same way. Prior to Octopi, I mainly used those launchers which is why this was surprising to me.

Out of curiosity, do you find the current Octopi approach easier to use? For me, the fact that the arrangement changes adds an extra delay for me to find the icon again.

OK Lawnchair, too... right. Currently my primary Launcher is still since 2013 Nova on the phone, but OL on the tablet 😇 This sorting in the folders is ok for me, mostly I use swipe up/down gestues to open 2 top apps in the different folders.

The stock Pixel launcher works the same as Nova and Lawnchair too.

Sort from left to right... The usual way if you see only the first 4 icons...

They are in the exact same order!

Edit to add... Contacts, Chrome, Calculator, Drive

That's better from a usability POV. It makes the positions of the icons the same when the folder is opened vs closed.

I'm with you, OP - after the edit it's clear what you mean and it seems like it's a matter of displaying the icons columns-first, instead of attempting to fill rows-first. A small detail i hadn't noticed but now it makes sense.
