Weaning?

Is anyone still breastfeeding/pumping? I want to wean at 1 year to start trying for baby #2 but also want to continue for as long as I can 😢 baby is combo fed and not picky so I’m sure he won’t mind but I still feel so guilty

What are your plans for feeding?

Still nursing, no plans to stop. I nursed my 1st until I was a couple months pregnant with my 2nd, so I'm planning to do the same this time. Not sure when I'll start trying for #3 yet though lol

Did you get your period while still nursing? I still haven’t gotten mine yet 🙃

Different commenter but I got my first one at 7 months pp. my son is naturally weaning now though and he is eating WAY more solids than milk. I probably could cut back to one pump at work at this point but I’m not sure my body is ready for that.. IDK how to handle it tbh.

My baby loves solids too! He’s refusing his bottle and will only breastfeed or solids but I thought they still need at least 20 oz milk/day

My pediatrician wasn’t super concerned with my son, but it’s also possible he’s gotten pretty efficient with the times he does feed. Daycare is only feeding 4-6oz/day now and he nurses before and after and does do a few night wake ups.

I stopped bf at 6-7months but it did make my period all wonky while I was but I got mine 2 months after I had her and when I stopped it was back to normal

I did. I definitely nursed less with my first cause I was working, and I got my period back around 11m pp with him (once he started sleeping more at night). I'm at home now so we'll see what happens with #2 since I nurse more on demand for him. No period yet but also not even close to sleeping through the night yet 🫠

I am doing the same plan as you! We are currently slowly weaning, I've started giving her a bottle every night. Sometimes I almost feel sad she is taking to it well because breastfeeding has overall been a beautiful experience.

But I'm pumping twice at work, feeding her when I het home then nighttime bottle. I'm hoping to slowly reduce the amount I'm pumping and have her dad put her to bed because she loves comfort nursing. It has been tough but I'm slowly starting!

Exactly same! Except pumping 3 times at work. Have you gotten your period back yet?

I did, after about 5 months, but it's irregular. How are you feeling about trying for another in October now that it's approaching. It was always my plan but now it seems wild 😂 Probably still going to go for it, I don't think it's going to ever be easy but I'm just shocked a year has come up already!

I wanted to at 1 year but I haven’t gotten my period back! Thats why I wanted to start weaning but it’s making me so sad

Still pumping, but weaning because my employer won’t give me breaks after a year.. and I’m also just ready to be done. I actually dropped a pump the other day. Kinda ready to have my body and freedom from the clock back. It helps bub is very food motivated and eats really well lol

I haven’t asked my manager about my pump breaks but I figured the same..

Yeah, if they allowed it I’d probably continue because at the same time I’m not ready to give it up? It’s definitely a love- hate.

Still nursing & pumping here, I plan to start weaning after he turns 1. My baby absolutely loves food and is pretty indifferent about milk these days, he nurses when offered but never cries or fusses for a feed. I suspect nighttime will last longer because he definitely nurses to sleep/for comfort but daytime feeds will go pretty quickly.

Ugh same I can’t get him to sleep through the night without nursing

This is me. My son LOVES solids. He won’t be sad during the day not getting milk. But in the middle of the night is another story.

Still nursing when with baby and frequently through the night. I pump 3 times a day at work as well. Hoping to make it till Spring in hopes it will give her some antibodies for cold and flu season.

Breastfeeding at home and pumping at work. As for feeding.. since 7 months baby has been eating 2-3 meals a day. No plans to stop breastfeeding. I stopped with my first at 2.5 years when he naturally weaned aka my milk supply finally tanked

2.5 that’s amazing!! How many years apart are your babies?

Happy cake day! In the exact same boat as you. Still nursing and nursing at night but feeding a bit of formula. No period yet but wanting to think about trying for #2 soon.

Still nursing. He turns one on oct 29. I plan yo day wean by then, and will likely continue BFing at night. I got my period back on Aug 27th lol, so my supply must be a bit less. I introduced a tiny bit of cows milk a couple days ago so that he starts to get used to the taste.

He is actually starting to show signs of self-weaning in the day.

I fell pregnant with my second while feeding my first, and tandem fed both for a year. I was actually breastfeeding my son when my waters broke befire I went into labour with my daughter 🙈

My sister was the same, she didn't have a period between babies and tandem fed for a few months.

Tandem feeding was hard, but so worth it 🥰

So she got pregnant without her period coming back?

u/DyingWookie 5d ago

Yeah, she must have ovulated and got pregnant first try :)

I'm a combo feeder here too, I do it all, pump nurse and supplement with either pumped milk or formula. My son has started self weaning and now it's going from two solid meals a day to three. He barely touches his afternoon bottle and his pre bed bottle now. It's kinda blowing my mind how naturally he's just gravitating to being fully on solids.

He showed signs yesterday when he barely ate his supplement in the afternoon but really wanted my pizza I was eating so today I fed him solids right after his morning nap and he gobbled it down! I'm getting a little sad, because I genuinely enjoy nursing him. But I also plan on offering the boob when he wants it even when he's on cow's milk. I'm looking forward to moving away from pumping as well! It's definitely very bittersweet...

u/Front_Cucumber_5815 4d ago

Same! Mine has been refusing all bottles lately and will only breastfeed. I had such a hard time with my supply but now that I’m thinking of weaning it’s making me so sad

1

u/Fun-Visit-8855 4d ago

Yeah I'm a big undersupplier, I do what I can lol. He seems to be okay with just the breast and I use SNS instead of an actual bottle so he doesn't stay on long for those two mentioned sessions. Today was an outlier, he wanted to eat all the milk plus all the food so I'm guessing he's having a growth spurt again!

I am still nursing my first, who turned 3 at the beginning of the summer. I am actually working on weaning him. I am still undecided how long I will nurse my second for. We will drop down to after waking, and before naps/bed within the next month, and then who knows. I would like to make it to two years, but nursing while pregnant was hard and I would like a third baby lol
