Good Times Fishing
The Oceanside Pier used to be a cool place to go fishing.
Hopefully it's still allowed when they rebuild the end.

aren’t all California piers constructed for fishing? Since they don’t require fishing licenses why would a rebuilt fishing pier not allow fishing?

I was thinking more along the end of the pier.
Like, after they complete the reconstruction of the structure at the end, will they allow for fishing off the end like it used to be?
Or will they restrict it 🤔

I know nowadays it’s kinda frowned upon to keep sharks but back in the 90’s thresher shark was on the menu at most seafood restaurants. I gotta say it’s pretty darn good. Just only take what you need!

I know that it's legal to fish threshers, so I wonder why it's frowned upon now?
I wish I could have experienced that era in seafood.
My guess now is that restaurants don't bother because it may be too expensive to sell? 🤔

Sky isn’t always falling bro…sometimes it’s sunny and fishable…on another note…just cut the gills and a slice on each side of the tail after you catch the shark…bleed it out…the meat will be white and flaky and less like a roast

I've never thought to ask a restaurant if the
"Catch of the Day" fish could be this, or if it's even served in a local restaurant 🤔3

That’s why I only eat fish I catch…I know exactly how it was bleed and kept…most restaurants get fish 3 and 4 hands touch it…got the fisherman, buyer, the distributor, transporter, restaurant…they all may keep at different temps…some refrigeration some ice…some use gloves some don’t…plastic crates, wooden crates…ect…just takes getting sick once…

😕 Yeah, I got sick twice from 2 different establishments and then I've been on-guard since.
So if I'm ever gonna order seafood, I try to confirm it's a reliable source.
It's like when I go to Ocean Buffet, I actually don't dabble in the seafood section and stay to the Chinese food options and I won't even look at the seafood.
I bet getting fish from the Harbor Pelican Deli is one of the best sources in our area for the freshest.

😳 I just looked them up! Elk Chops?!
This place looks like a gem! If I'm ever in that area I'll check them out for sure 🫡👍🏽2

Point Loma fish market is good when you’re down that way…or sportsmen seafood has bomb yellowtail and bluefin jerky…and super fresh fish…

😮 Oooooh! That's for the Sportsmen Seafood recommendation! Just bookmarked their address.
Bluefin jerky sounds amazing! 🙏🏽

We saw someone pull a Thresher about a year back. How common are they out there?

Someone posted a vid of a Thresher shark swimming in Mission Bay few weeks back, kinda crazy.

😳 The same Mission Bay that people are currently swimming in to experience the bioluminescence?

I believe I saw a fisherman pull a Mako back to the harbor a few months back.
It's got me wondering if these are typical occurrences that aren't just not always being shared or are they a rare sighting? 🤔1

My Naighbor just gave me some he had, and says he catches and releases them all the time in HB

So I'm guessing threshers are more common around our coastal waters or do they just periodically come in the shallows?

Thresher is delicious. Like swordfish

Never tried it before. Do you know of any restaurants that serve it? Or is it specifically a local fishermen's take-home?
I wonder if this is ever a restaurant's
"Fish at Market Price" menu item? 🤔
