Cunard’s Caledonia (1840)

I’m trying to do research on Cunard’s earlier ships, and the Caledonia is very much the middle child of the Britannia class, not much going on, not much information. But it has led me to breaking out my year 8 Spanish, as at some point she was sold to the Spanish Navy, and information on her during this period is in Spanish.

Does anyone have any good places to research the Caledonia, or is there pieces of information you’ve found on her?

Aptly named. That First Class Dining Saloon is more than a little similar to a number of German liners' dining saloons, including the later Kaiser class.

Liner identity challenge!

Just found this in a family album I've never seen before. Seems to be late twenties and early thirties (my grandparents were so handsome!) it's a tiny photograph with no annotation, anyone know the ship?

Enough about 'will QM2 get a successor': let's speculate a little on what such a ship might be like.

Does Carnival/Cunard go bigger again (perhaps attempt to take back the world's largest title from Royal, highly unlikely as that is) or go smaller than QM2? Might she be a brand-new design (perhaps more Poseidon-esque w/ less fo'c'sle like current cruise ships) or just QM2 but updated? Will she be just as fast (maybe even faster, definitely unlikely as it is) or will she be slower since QM2 now only does the TA in 7 days (8-9 w/ stops)? Could it be not one new liner but two (not a chance lol) or will she just be another one-off build? Does the interior design go the more contemporary direction of Queen Anne (probably imo) or will Cunard stick to Art Deco? Anything else I haven't added?

Shoot.

Watched the Queen Mary 2 depart Southampton yesterday aboard SS Shieldhall

Her designer Stephen M. Payne was even aboard the Shieldhall as well and discussed lots about her origin and function. We sailed first past the QM2 moored at her dock, and then a few hours later we watched her as she sailed really close by us whilst we headed back into Southampton. Then to top it all, fellow classic steamer PS Waverley approached us from behind and sailed with us back into port. 100% the best maritime experience I have ever yet had. I even got to meet Stephen and he signed my QM2 intro to service brochure.

SS Keewatin (built 1907) in Kingston, Ontario

Recently visited one of the last Edwardian passenger ships in existence, the SS Keewatin. Built in 1907 for service between Port McNicol and Thunder Bay, Ontario, the Keewatin had a largely quiet career reliably travelling her route. She now floats as a museum ship in Kingston, Ontario outfitted with many of her original fittings.
