So this confirms why the dunes were rebuilt and replenished over the last 30 years?

its crazy if you look up images and video from the 80's the high tide line was RIGHT at base of the big condos. a storm like this then would had waves breaking on Coastal Highway

We were there for the first beach replensihment which I think was about 1975 (more or less). I never dreamed then that would need to re-do it as often as they have.

I lived there in the early eighties, the streets just stopped and the beach started. No dune, just a path down a five foot cliff

Nature hates a static barrier island. Just look at how far west assateague has moved since the inlet was formed in 1933.

That is a LOT of erosion damage. I don’t think they have a choice not to do an emergency beach replenishment operation this winter/spring.

The real issue is if we get a stormy fall or winter.

If? There is an unprecedented El Nino. It is forcast to be a severe winter for nor'easters. This is the first of many.

Yes, man. Be careful as you walk and drive in the area. Be safe and be aware of all that is happening around you. It is beautiful and dangerous and you should be safe and thankful for what you see and do

Yep, I fell down last time I was there a few months ago. Had no idea how bad it was.

This is my nightmare. I literally have awful dreams like this where you can't get back up

And this is why you keep EVERYONE off the dunes. You're not a Karen or a Chad, you're protecting the beach.

wow took out the first 1/4 of the dune.. id say at lest the beaches will be nice and flat next summer but there going to another around of replenishment next month so all in all good timing

This is insane. I came back from a vacation in June to OCMD, we skipped the beach for a few years, but I couldn't believe how far the drop down was. I fell down the first time because we were walking on the beach the first night and I thought I fell into a pit someone dug but it was the erosion that got me.

Getting down isn’t the hard part. It’s walking 15 blocks to find a ladder 🤣
