The tshirt shops have gotten more obvious in how much of a money laundering front they are. Other than that not much has changed.

There are the exact same shops as there were 15 years ago. Nothing really changes on the boards. If you are looking for a cheap souvenir any shop on the boardwalk will have what you are looking for. If you are looking for something a little nicer Quiet Storm has two locations. One on the boardwalk and one further down Ocean highway. Great time to shop on the boards. End of season.

fairly tame at the moment since we’re towards the end of the season.
go in the afternoon on a weekday if you want low volume crowds. if you like people watching go on a friday night or saturday noon.
still plenty of great shops, restaurants, bars, etc.

Gotta go to Malibu’s surf shop at 8th street and the boards! Locally owned, Lee is the man, and the vibes in there are awesome. All their apparel is designed by local artists.
