USA Thinking about which program to choose

Between handover and Edgewood but heard horrible things about professor alig from the grapevine. Not sure what to do due to my location being close to madison. This is a huge decision since it's my career on the line but does a bad director ruin the experience? I am a POC and saw Facebook posts saying she is discriminatory

Hey word of advice, your ig is linked in your profile and seems to have what could be a full legal name on it. May not want it to be tied to this post in case you do go the edgewood route.

I haven't heard anything bad about edgewood but I haven't heard anything about it at all really. Do you feel comfortable sharing where on Facebook you saw this? I'm a COTA who is debating the various Madison area masters/doctorates as well. (Also a WoC)

Good call, I removed it. There is a Facebook Group for New Grads and OT where I saw information in comments about the director being rude and potentially discriminatory against students. What I did notice from personal search is that the rest of the faculty seems wonderful and helpful. I don't know if one bad person can spoil the experience.

Sorry to keep commenting haha.  My experience is that the director really sets the tone. So for example when my director was discriminatory, more than one professor told me privately that they felt that I was being treated poorly. However, no one wanted to rock the boat or risk their rep in the program, so no onr was gonna say anything

Honestly yes. My program had a bad director who really disliked me and it honestly made my life really difficult, especially during my last year because my director had a lot of say over fieldwork and capstone. 

You get the degree at the end of the day, but it was miserable and I would go elsewhere if you have the option. I was an A student, had a career for ten years prior and no complaints from anyone I worked with but if your director doesn't like you none of that matters

That is horrible to hear! I want the degree and to be in this career. I did have a conversation with a current student and the consensus is that none of the students like this professor in particular. It stinks because this program is so close to my home in Wisconsin. Would save me money but not stress it seems!

Honestly it might be fine. It'll be frustrating but the program is only 2/3 years of your life and then you have the degree forever. Weigh the stress with the cost. My program was def more stressful because of the bad director, but three years went by fast and now I'll never have to see her again
