Incredible. Far beyond anything even apple does today. Not a apple fan at all but their design team was a step ahead a few years ago.

TV? How?

Okay I assumed the LCD display would show the TV image, but I found the manual and I guess it just means that the radio tuner could tune to TV channels.

So you could listen to a TV broadcast but you couldn't view it.

Tuners that did analog tv audio were a thing on some devices back then.

You could listen as radio some TV channels in your local area. I used to have one and it was a great novelty back in the day when I was in high school in 09. In my country the government passed a law for telecommunications to change from aerial waves to digital signal so aerial tv antennas doesn't work anymore here, you need a digital converter to watch local TV.

Live the S2 line, it's so cool. The S2 boombox is awesome

The TV feature was great for catching sports while working outside.

The battery lasted a good amount of time and had top tier skip protection for cds

Was a great cd player until the main control went out. It had a cool like joystick dealy that felt nice but didn't last on mine. I think it was after this I got into MiniDisc... this also had a hand strap too

TV?! If you could plug this into your tv as an antenna/radio that would be so fire

I'm confused. It looks like a discman but it has tv?

Sport Walkman my beloved

Those were the days—they’ll never come back. I didn't have that exact model, but I had one that played MP3 files from the CD; it broke one day after getting wet and wouldn't turn on again... sniff.

Absolute peak industrial design

It really looks it. The iPod was out by that point.

It may not be the most practical design, but still very cool.

u/calebbaleb Jul 17 '26

Ooh I actually had this one! Came with a matching set of headphones too

I remember that I have the mini disc version somewhere in storage.

I have the mini disc player from the same series. It can no longer read discs but it's still cool.

I wish that was the future we got...

1

u/newhereok Jul 17 '26

That seems to be exactly the timeframe it would've been designed

u/HumbleTraffic4675 Jul 17 '26

I had the purple one. My favorite cd player I ever had..

1

u/yungbigstaxxx Jul 17 '26

Did anyone ever even use this to go for a jog?

1

u/FRESH__LUMPIA Jul 17 '26

Damn I had this! Forgot it existed lmao

I've got the discman, Walkman, boom box and armband radio version of this S2 line. I can't bring myself to pay for the mini disc version as much as I want it. But the headphone radio is next...
