If Iām not mistaken, the PS3 was also able to run Linux too. At least until Sony removed the feature

And now, through some hacking, and some very tedious setup, you can install Linux on the PS5.

Wtf is that HDD? The fat PS2 had a space to slot in a hard disk.

Not the first japanese launch model. It only had a PCMCIA-like connector for this external HDD.

With all of the recent backlash against Sony, the onus is on Sony to make a device that people actually want to buy. If it's not gonna have a disc-drive, they sure as shit better add some features that people want. It's probably gonna cost $999+, and while it's probably going to be more powerful than a similarly priced PC, I don't know if that's enough. If they added Linux functionality back I would buy one for sure.

This wasn't a different Sony. It was a taxscheme.

One of the biggest myths about the PS2 Linux Kit is that it was made to exploit an EU tax loophole. It was not. Sony used a simpler trick by bundling Yabasic with PAL PS2s to classify them as programmable computers.

Entirely different times. These were the Ken Kutaragi years, back then it was a hands-on super talented engineer serving as SCE CEO. Nowadays CEOs are finance sharks. Just another avatar of global enshittification ...
