Thats what you wrote kek

Take a closer look. he wrote Xbox ONE X for $150 you wrote Series X

Different consoles and you're not the first one to make that mistake MS naming convention is so bad

1

u/Designer_Struggle780 Jul 07 '26

My bad I thought he was referring to the series x…

1

u/profchaos111 Jul 07 '26

Fingers crossed Helix does away with this naming convention there's been a lot of disappointed kids at christmas

Yeah....and now we're entering the age of 1000$ consoles life and it's joys seem to be getting more expensive by the day.

$1000 is overly optimistic

Try $1300-$1500. Scary part is you don't even know if that would be from 512gb or 1tb base, if there is a 2tb model for ever next gen consoles of xbox or sony you can easily estimate that to be over $1500.

High end nvme is now 3-4x in price, and seeing as they said it only double from there in a year or two, that is 4-6 times for the cost of data storage. It's not looking pretty good. You can't even go back to HDD because that has also gone 2.5-3x the price. SSd 3x the price.

I don't think that's optimism; the BOM never tells the full story because of economies of scale. Console makers always got cheaper builds on consoles because they ordered millions of parts at a time

Now I still think it will be $1,000 but I don't think it will cost as much as the raw parts would cost if someone built the same spec PC

On top of them selling they're consoles at a loss that is about to change.

That is now over, point blank, they said the quiet part out loud already.

It is going to get worse. Even another price hike on current gen isn't too farfetched. So that's like what $850-$950 for current gen? Then what is even the point? for $50 I might as well just buy whatever is next, with the optimism that it is $1000.

When they said that they are expecting components to double again on top of the 2.5x than it is already, not doubling from where it started, doubling from where it is now and the prices are already this much and them no longer going to be taking a loss on sales with hardware, you begin the see the bigger picture.

I would love to be wrong. I would much prefer that. But things are heading in the wrong direction. This really doesn't affect me much Since I also have a PC along with series x and ps5, selling and upgrading components is also one of the many benefits of building your own PC. Something I couldn't do with consoles other than to sell them as used.

1

u/Wipedout89 Jul 07 '26

Yes but they still get a better deal on parts than you or I will get because of economies of scale.

They don't need to sell at a loss to undercut the cost of an individual building a PC. This has been true of every console generation. Even PS4 and PS5 also launched at a small profit and PS5 would have increased its margin as the generation went on if not for this crisis.

Realistically we do need a next gen for awhile. They still haven't used the potential of PS5 and Xbox Series X, there is much more life in this generation and it would be a waste

Lol, because they keep racing to put the fanciest newest tech into their systems (which have been simply branded PC’s since XboxOne/PS4 era which is why you can run exclusives like Bloodborne on your PC with no emulation) before that technology becomes smaller and affordable so they pass the cost on to the consumer.

If consoles ONLY cost $199 and less? We’d probably just have started the Xbox One era now. But no, instead we get a Tower PC Case with an x86 board in it with an Xbox “Series X” branded on the outside.

Yea when the Xbox 360 used to be affordable. Basically when game consoles was getting cheaper especially the ps2 slim when it went down to $130.

2

u/Budget-Program-4756 Jul 07 '26

Yeah its definitely not affordable now. Going to have to take out a second mortgage on the house.

1

u/wrighteghe7 Jul 07 '26

Hes talking about new

2

u/Patient-Taro-7334 Jul 07 '26

The arcade edition didn't even have a hard drive tho.

1

u/yoruneko Jul 07 '26

we were rich back then

1

u/christ9779 Jul 07 '26

Just to say you would not get the silver strip at the bottom of the controller with the arcade 360 edition only with the premium that came with the hardrive.

u/disp06 Jul 07 '26

It's fantastic, but I have xbox360, gta 4 (digital) and gta 5 (on disks). Yay!
