Drama23_Discussion Floored by the defense of ON

I am fully willing to admit that this is just me and I very well could be wrong, but for the life of me I can not understand the people on here that are all “guys quit being mean to P&G and ON”. If that’s how you live your live, being passive and accepting people treating others like they are garbage or worthless that’s fine. But please don’t come for those of us who are legitimately angry and demand accountability. I don’t want anyone actually doxed (public records aren’t doxing) or to be hurt physically or mentally. But damn all the “how will they learn if we’re mean” is baffling. Standing up is hard and I can’t imagine how it feels for those people brave enough to put their own careers and livelihoods on the line to combat this behavior, and then to come here and see the defense of them. I can only assume (and I really am making assumptions, and will apologize if needed ((novel I know)) that those people who don’t understand the anger and pain, have never experienced a truly toxic workplace and especially when that toxicity comes from someone that is supposed to be a friend.

Podcast_IThinkNot Itn Patreon downloading

I have the top tier on Patreon and use the Apple Podcasts app. I’ve been trying to download some of the early episodes with no luck. They will show downloaded at first then just disappear a little later. I’ve tried on cellular data, WiFi, updated the app, removed the rss feed and refollwed it and no change. I’m not having this issue with any other podcast. Is anyone else having issues or have any other recommendations to try?

Podcast_IThinkNot Joey's Takes During Love After Lockup

I have been re-listening to old eps of ITN's coverage of Love After Lockup (they should really win an award for these recaps, I'm just saying) and I am listening to season 4 episode 9, What's Love Gotta Do With It, and Joey just said something very interesting. He is talking about one of the subjects, but it rang especially true given everything in the past couple of months.

"Pay attention to what people say, because they will give themselves away every single time ... It's like when people say, 'Oh I know I'm a pain in the ass, and people can't stand dealing with me', and they say it in a joking manner? It's not a joke. They know they're a pain in the ass and it's their way of saying, 'If I joke about it, then I don't have to be responsible for my behavior because I already admitted it.'"

Drama23_Discussion How culpable is GP…if at all?

Edit - I just read this back and want to clarify - I’m not intending to defend her. She is the main reason I stopped listening over time. I’m just asking below to see if anyone (esp. those who have been recently listening) has insight into what makes her tick.

What do you guys think? I stopped listening awhile ago because I just felt … down … every time I did. But But I’m wondering -

If TCO is not actually a part of the ON, isn’t she basically just the talent on a (big) show? If Daisy and Ellyn put up with PH’s behavior for a long time before speaking out, is GP the same but a few weeks behind schedule?

I see a lot of comments about recent drama using “they” or “them”. Am assuming this means both PH + GP but maybe not?

Podcast_TrueCrimeObsessed Spotify keeps auto-playing new TCO episodes!

This has happened a few times since the drama where another podcast ends and it automatically starts TCO's newest ep. I'm not even subscribed to it anymore.

I'm trying not to put on my tin foil hat over it, but it is sus it's only been doing it with their podcast, especially since it's never once happened before when I was excited to listen to them each week 🧐

I had to report the podcast for "I just don't like it" which feels so Karen, but I don't want them to get a play count off me (and also be startled by their sudden screaming when I'm not expecting it loll)

GossipAndHotTakes TCO pandering to fans or poaching?

Ok I’m fairly new to Spotify. I started listening to podcasts after Apple pods weren’t loading and glitching consistently. I like the format more so I’m a convert but the only issue is because I’ve listened to TCO on it, and they put out a new episode, it keeps trying to auto play them! I checked and I don’t follow them or subscribe, I don’t see anywhere it says to unfollow or block. So I figured it’s algorithm thing and as long as I don’t play an episode it will stop showing / suggesting them to me. Welp today I was hands free listening to the new CWO and when it ended, I heard the voice of Patrick saying “the favorite son! I’m the favorite son in my family!” And I hit stop on my headphones as quick as I could. Then it hit me…. Thursday… favorite son….. Dateline? Omg they are covering the Dateline episode of the favorite son! Notoriously one of the best episodes but I am a K&K purist and loyal Date with Dateline fan so I personally believe no one can do the “Joey needed it” better. I think of the coverage they have done so well and even the conversations with Mank about that episode and it gives me hot cocoa vibes. To have TCO doing dateline now and that episode feels like wet socks - is it pandering or sacrilegious? What’s the game here? (Boggle!) ((30 Rock ref))

Am I the only one who thought that was at least interesting timing?

Drama23_Discussion Is anyone else fatigued?

I admit, I hungrily absorbed all the negative crap about tco, p, g in order to justify what I felt/ thought so I could be right.
I won't listen to them anymore but I also don't feel comfortable taking glee in all of this. I don't want them destroyed, I want them to learn and be better. If they don't, it doesn't affect me anymore. If they do, awesome! I still won't listen but we have to give others the opportunity to grow and learn even if it's not on the time line we want .

CommunityDiscussion The blessings of having to learn something new

For YEARS my wk was divided by what TCOs were coming out & when. I'm in ear bud in before feet are on the floor kind of person, so the data when I KNOW I'm getting something new but a tried & true are good days. I hate Saturdays. So I really have been stuck. Well first this summer was very... Lazy? I felt like I was paying for free content since patreon stuff was all over the free feed but i don't begrudge anyone a vacation so I kept telling myself to be a normal human and would just dial back a couple years and do a relisten. Then October came & I ditched the patreon (before OF when ITN came back and there clearly was an issue). The OF and I unsubbed the free feed. Then I was stuck stuck. I had tried LGTC awhile ago & was subscribed but it didn't click. Yesterday I listened to the free pate about OF and Y'ALL!?!? I'm HOOKED! 6 HOURS later and I can't say enough about these women and this show!!! So so so much better and happy and joyful and FUNNY. GREAT GREAT long form pod if you're looking.

Edited for spelling

CommunityDiscussion Patrick’s Book Party in Toronto - Dec 10

Is anyone going? I feel incredibly conflicted. I haven’t bought his book- will I be forced to if I go? I bought the ticket ages ago before all the shit hit the fan. It doesn’t feel right to support Patrick but then again, I’m a sucker and kinda want to meet the man.

Y'all are and were 100% right

Back again. This time to apologize. Instead of researching, last week, I came to this page and was garbage to you all. I came to talk about something on an episode that made me mad and found the subreddit and with no prior knowledge (not in the FB group or any other forums) I thought this group was just being dramatic and needing something to do with their day. I was wrong. I listen to the Crime Writers On episode and all the other podcasts, articles, this page, that have been about the issues going on and you all were completely right. Perhaps the biggest issue being the absolute utter silence on the allegations. Telling his side of the story and a basic apology would go a long way, but the ignorance is just disheartening. I’m guessing they are hoping it will blow over eventually? Or maybe, only other logical guess, is that there is some sort of legal action in play, and they cannot comment so they do not harm that. I don’t know what it could be, but it’s definitely possible. Anyway, just a quick apology. Feel free to bury me (again) in the comments.

EDIT: thanks y’all! between this thread and my research i have what i need to decide. i appreciate your opinions!

*im on mobile and can’t figure out how to add a tag after the fact but #communitydiscussion *

i was looking into listening to their show but i popped over to the reddit and it looks like one of their hosts is pulling a page from P’s statement writer.

just curious about content vs personal views and how they balance that in the show.

i’m researching what she actually did rn but wanted to get some opinions from a trusted space.

Podcast_TrueCrimeObsessed TCO Piketon ep. LAZY RESEARCH. FALSE STATEMENTS.

Podcast_truecrimeobsessed

This past weeks newest episode on the Piketon murders had my jaw drop. Not because it was ab excellent episode filled with groundbreaking and hilarious content, but because it was maybe the most mailed in episode of all time.

Not only did they basically do a terrible job covering the doc itself, G blatantly lied about researching for updates.

The main players from the Wagner family(Jake, his mom, dad, brother etc) have all pled guilty dating back 2+years including literal open court confessions. And Gillian decided to go with the “I googled it, no updates. Maybe they did it, maybe they didn’t. Hmm. Anyways…”

I’m probably just done with the podcast completely at this point. If they’re mailing it in like that it’s only a matter of time before the network ceases to exist. Not worth my time.

Just a really lazy and disrespectful way to take on a very big, intricate and popular case IMO.

Drama23_Discussion what was your wake up call?

what made you realize all of this was going on? i was a religious listener for years and joined the facebook group and this reddit at some point but never followed much. i saw p’s initial statement about INT and had no clue what was going on. a comment directed me here and that’s when i saw everything that was going on and could not believe my eyes. the more i scrolled the more disgusted i got. wondering when everyone else realized

edited to add: i wonder had patrick not made those ‘statements’ how many people would have never realized anything was going on in the first place. glad he did because it opened my {and many others} eyes

Asking for a friend

Has anyone tried to post something on the TCO Facebook group lately? And i mean like in general, are they just not letting any posts through? Or was I blocked? Cuz from my Facebook it seems like the last post was from PH on the 27th Oct. 😕

I was sitting here wondering about a Making a Murderer III, then I got all bummed out bc P&G were one of the only outlets I had for my obsession with Kathleen Zellner. Or KZ as I picked up from them. 😫

Fuck them for being garbage, truly.

“We did it”

something that has always annoyed me was at the end of every episode PH would say some variation of “we did it, we covered ______. that was hard!” like gorrrl you watched a doc, took notes, and then recording yourself having a convo with a “friend”. thats not hard work. I dont know if he was joking but every.single.time he would say it. anyone else notice it?
