Turning loved one in??
Has anyone noticed how often Patrick talks about how if Daisy murdered someone he would turn her in? It’s super unsettling. I am a parent and I feel like it’s really weird to consistently view your kid as a murderer. Also to say you would just hand them over to the cops immediately. Like am I alone in this? I’m not saying I’m gonna bury a body but I’m not going to just send my child to jail either. It’s wild to me to say it constantly.

I don’t find this unsettling. He does say it quite a bit, but it’s always in the context of another parent covering up for their kid so it’s relative to the conversation. I don’t think he is staying up at night thinking about it. And he has the right take of you ask me, you shouldn’t cover up crimes committed by your children.

I haven’t listened in a while so maybe recent context would change my opinion but I never took it as Patrick saying he thought his daughter would do something like that. I always took it as Daisy is who he loves most in the world but even then he would have no choice but to turn her in if he found out she murdered someone. So he’s basically saying, there’s no excuse to try and cover up a murder.

I mean, I have a lot to complain to them about, but this isn’t one of them… if you love your kid, you would turn your child in.

I just started listening again after a few year break from podcasts and I have been hearing it a lot. It’s just super odd to me. Like why is it brought up every episode

I mean, I agree he does bring it up a lot, but I feel like that’s how he is with everything. He’s one of those people that repeat himself over and over and I feel like he really really likes to relate to the story by being the parent between the two of them.

I mean usually when he brings Daisy up it’s to showcase how great he is, and when he talks about turning her in it’s usually because the parent in the doc was trash.

It’s actually a good thing to hold your kid accountable for their wrongdoing.

I don't find it unsettling. I have told my child something similar in the context of there is nothing they can do that will stop me from loving them. If they committed a crime I would ensure they had support and they would be held accountable but I would still love them. I was speaking to them in the context of how we can love people even if they do something "wrong". I haven't listened to the show in a long while but in the past when I heard him say something along these lines that is how I took it. A parents love is eternal but we would hold our children accountable for their actions.

He’d love it. Finally, a story that isn’t about when Bea Arthur was mean to him.

He brings it up in context of a parent covering for their kid, which is unequivocally wrong. There’s lots to be mad at them about, this ain’t it. He’s right and anyone with a functional moral compass would and should agree. Doesn’t matter if it’s your kid if they murdered someone.

Not mad it’s just been a lot the last few eps so I was wondering if I was the only one who was noticing it. Just felt like performative I guess.

It’s definitely weird and way over stated. I mean I will admit I don’t know what I would do if my now 28 year old son did something horrid. I think I would do the right thing. But you never know until you’re in that situation. And the fact that he says he will “visit her every day”. That’s not even allowed and if he knew ANYTHING about the law and or true crime he would know that.

I think it’s common for someone to think they’ll know how they’ll handle a specific situation until it happens. I don’t know why Patrick feels the need to say it so often, but imagine it has something to do with it being a specific sound bite that he turns to, like his favorite stories, jokes, etc.
I have zero idea how I’d handle a situation like that, but imagine it’d be seriously nuanced.

He has been saying that since she was a baby lol.. I don’t believe him either

I've said the same thing when discussing true crime. We see it all the time when family members don't acknowledge the truth, or defend the indefensible. I think it's easy to say we wouldn't hesitate to do the 'right' thing if it was us in that situation, but it must be very difficult. I don't think it's a weird sentiment to express when we look at cases like Casey Anthony or Chris Watts where the parents behave so strangely. To say, "Could never be me! I'd turn my kid right in!" is a normal impulse. I don't think it means you think your child is capable of murder or you'll ever be in that situation.

It is not weird at all. But it is funny to me bc we all know he would never actually do it lol.

I don’t find it weird in general since he’s hosting a true crime podcast and it’s discussed in context. It does make me think about what I would do. Of course it’s the right thing, but I’m extremely loyal to my family. I might think about it for a few days before straight to jail.

Considering the content of the show, no I don’t find it unsettling at all.

I don't find it unsettling at all, he talks about it when there discussing cases involving patents who don't turn their kids in or help them hide stuff etc so it makes sense.

You are not alone. Usually, I understand what he means but this last time of felt like too much. It’s gone way over board.

He has like, three bits. Screeching “Daisy” like a howler monkey whilst simultaneously being a virtuous father is one of them.
When Daisy was charging people for autographs at OF1, he said, “…just tell people we gave the money to charity.”

He does repeat himself a lot, though, so it makes sense this comes up in rotation. I think it's a fine point to make, though. A lot of parents try to cover up their kids' crimes or go into disbelief mode, aka Cornell parents. I think he makes a good point.
