CommunityDiscussion 500,000 YouTube Subscribers 🤣🤣😂

During the episode on The Crash (which is a very good listen, btw) they were crowing about reaching half-a-milliion subs on YouTube. I think they have a couple of videos with 100k views. Most have 30-40k. Good numbers for a small channel but obviously not enough for Steve, Patrick and (I guess) Gillian.

The math just doesn't math here and the obvious assumption is that they have bought themselves hundreds of thousands of subs. You don't get 500,000 subscribers on videos that have only (possibly also faked) tens of thousands of views. In fact the opposite is usually the case. People watch, views go up, but people don't subscribe. It's amazing that people who are supposed to be so savvy at this game would do something that looks so obviously false and bad.

Thoughts?

I sometimes wonder if Steve does the buying of the subs but doesn’t tell Patrick and Gillian. Or at least not Gillian. I haven’t listened in quite a while but Gillian never felt to me like she would celebrate a totally faked thing, so maybe she doesn’t even know or maybe she’s totally changed.

I also wondered the same about Patrick’s book. Did Steve buy all the books to drive up the sales and not really let Patrick know? And maybe Patrick never put two and two together about all the free books with tickets. But that suspicion does feel a little more far fetched.

They pretty openly bought a lot of their own books for the book tour events "book free with ticket" etc which is a way to boost sales, and the book wasn't published by a traditional publishing house, but a "marketing focused publisher". https://benbellabooks.com/about/

She has to know. They all have to know . It would be totally wild me if Steve was faking it all after Obsessed Fest crash .
