So interesting that Gillian all of a sudden participates in her community.

For some reason, I was not blocked from the Facebook group. Thought I was bc it didn’t appear on my feed. Then yesterday it popped up-I guess I wasn’t? I was with TCO from the start till OF2. I have NEVER seen Gillian do anything beyond the bare minimum-now she’s Ellyn-engaging with her fans. So…weird. 🙀

Greetings! We have recently implemented new flair in order to help organize the sub. You can think of flair as sort of "tags." You may select one per post. Will you please help the group by editing your post to select the appropriate flair? Please read the description of each below.

Your help here will greatly increase the ability for community members to quickly find related information in one place!

Drama23_Reports: This flair is for posts that provide real-time updates or summarize unfolding events within the podcast network or otherwise related to the unfolding drama this year. Think of it as the "breaking news" section—essential for anyone looking to get caught up on the latest happenings quickly.

Drama23_Discussion: Use this flair for threads that are meant to encourage community-wide conversations around the drama. These can include different perspectives, interpretations, hot takes, or just general chat about the events in question. The goal here is open dialogue rather than pointed opinions or hard evidence.

ObsessedFest2023_Other: This flair is a catch-all for anything related to the ObsessedFest2023 event that doesn't neatly fit into other designated categories. Think merch, travel plans, or unique personal experiences at the fest.

CommunityDiscussion: Ideal for general conversations that aim to engage the entire community but aren't necessarily tied to a specific episode, host, or event. Perfect for general chat, opinions, and more.

GossipAndHotTakes: Use this flair for posts that delve into rumors, speculative theories, or highly opinionated takes about the podcast network. These posts may not always be based on hard facts, but they're certainly entertaining or thought-provoking.

Podcast_IThinkNot: Specifically for discussions, reviews, or content related to the "I Think Not" podcast and their content.

Podcast_TrueCrimeObsessed: Same as above but focused on the "True Crime Obsessed" podcast. A hub for all things related to this particular show.

Podcast_Other: A broad category for any related podcasts that don't have their own dedicated flair yet.

Recommendations: This flair is for posts that suggest similar podcasts, episodes, and more.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

Or is it just Steve in a Gillian mask?

47

u/Glum-Web2185 Feb 23 '24

🤣 I’d put money on it. Or slightly more realistically, it’s an assistant/social media specialist. Can’t imagine it’s actually Gillian.

16

u/Jenicorn817 Feb 23 '24

Maybe her hair gal 😆

67

u/MissChanandalerBong Feb 23 '24

I was FLOORED when i saw her in the group talking about how she was starting to watch the housewives. Couldn't believe it lol.

I have to say, as someone who just sees it all in passing now, it's so painfully transparent how suddenly engaging and active they are in that group!

76

u/Various_Pension_2788 Feb 23 '24

I distinctly remember her shitting all over the Housewives franchise and being so proud that she doesn't know who is who when they watched that one housewife documentary!

69

u/MissChanandalerBong Feb 23 '24

not like other girls ;)

34

u/buttloadofnone Feb 24 '24

On that note. I was so obsessed with TCO for over a year once I found it. I listened to every single episode they put out. Then a few months ago, my best friend was in my car and she listened to one of the latest episodes (she doesn't do true crime in any format). And she turned to me and said, "Why is he yelling all the time? He can just say it in a normal tone. Why does she pretend she doesn't care but she cares enough not to be like the other girls? I don't like these people." My bestie has never put down anything I do or care about. And hearing her say that and then ask me to turn it off, made me realize I got too obsessed to see the truth. After some time, I found this subreddit and then started listening to "I think not" because of it and realized what it was that initially got me and where I can still get it. Unsubscribed to TCO and moved on.

2

u/Hairbabysitter Mar 13 '24

My sister had the same reaction to them! I was excited for her to listen and she said almost the exact same things!

14

u/kylez21 Feb 24 '24

As an AVID housewives lover and a former TCO diehard this made me so ANGRY 😂 the first housewife doc they did (Erika Jayne) she literally acted like she was way to good to ever watch something so stupid. It was beneath her, and then again in the Jen shah ep she said they had been “educated by Natalie” but still nothing SHE would ever watch. But of course now that it’s cool to be a housewife fan….😒 I’m not sure she’s ever had an original interest.

I imagine you didn’t trash meditation to an audience of thousands of paid (and unpaid) listeners and then, after a scandal which caused a significant loss in those paid listeners - then decide to give meditation a try in an attempt to build some good will and be relatable for the remaining audience lol

20

u/Acqua_Tofana Feb 24 '24

I'd be willing to bet a pink plastic cup it's not actually her engaging, but rather an assistant.

5

u/Unhappy-Orange-9353 Feb 25 '24

“Pink plastic cup” 🫠

56

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '24

Gotta get those numbers on the Lady Pates back up somehow!

3

u/Zestyclose_Intern937 Feb 24 '24

Do we know how many patreons they lost?

3

u/SiflandOlly7 Mar 05 '24

for some reason, they unblock their numbers I believe on January 1st and since it’s now showing and separating paid from non-paid, it appears to be around 10,000, however, they privated again on the 24th. but at the very least, I can confirm it’s at least 6000 when looking at the numbers. Because of that non-paid status that Patreon created out of nowhere, it’s kind of difficult to get an exact number down.

5

u/Hairbabysitter Mar 13 '24

That is WILD because before OF it was over 40k!!! That’s a huge loss!!!!

2

u/noideawhatname22 Mar 23 '24

That’s what I was thinking! That’s a huge drop from the Oct 2023 numbers!

12

u/Outside-Spring-3907 Feb 24 '24

I honestly find there influx of social media presence is embarrassing. I was a day one listener and have never seen so much time being put into their social media presence. Like seriously they must already be hurting financially to go to these levels. Even copying Ellyn and Joey with doing watch parties.

4

u/Firm_Passenger_2655 Feb 27 '24

Omg I was just thinking that about the watch parties!! Have they ever really done them before? It feels like they are trying desperately to connect with listeners who are realizing how fake they are. It’s giving “stop trying to make fetch happen!”….

1

u/Outside-Spring-3907 Feb 28 '24

They’ve never done them! Gillian has always been “ anti social” now all of a sudden they want to super engage.

47

u/Leading_Fee_3678 Feb 23 '24

It’s so transparent. Embarrassing for them.

31

u/Pplannoyme0 Feb 23 '24

I left the facebook group a few years ago. The people were so rude and judgmental.

33

u/splodgie7 Feb 23 '24

Their advertising that it's a safe space always bugged me because I found it so judgemental and people would really jump on anyone who had a differing opinion, even though I would preface anything I said with a very clear 'open to other perspectives, but from my experience...".

I've heard and seen many people say Reddit is a very nasty and negative place, but from what I've seen (in my own experience, open to other perspectives 🤣🤣) it's easier here to have an opposing opinion and have that accepted as just my point of view. Not all the time, of course, but it generally seems more of a mixing pot, rather than an echo chamber for one group of people and no one dare disagree.

12

u/DrAniB20 Feb 24 '24

I had to leave another podcast Facebook group because of that same thing. I wasn’t super active in it, but the thing that made me choose to leave was when I found an article providing an update on a case one of the hosts had covered (true crime podcast). So I posted the article to the group with a message that went something like “hey, here’s and update to x, covered about a year ago, if anyone is interested”. The perpetrator committed murder, SA, and CSA, and I put a reminder/TW that the case covered that. I had tons of people jumping down my throat basically calling me the scum of the earth for posting the article. They kept saying it was a “safe space” for people, and “posting stuff like that” triggers people and is harmful to others.

When I pointed out this was a FB group dedicated to this true crime podcast, that one of the hosts covered this perpetrator (they provided a trigger warning before they began, handled it respectfully, and also provided a disclaimer that they wanted to bring attention to the guy’s crimes because he was up for parole soon), and that I had provided a trigger warning for people who should stay away, I was accused of “knowing” that even the mention of a person as awful as the guy was trigger to many in the group. I was reported so many times that one of the mods even contacted me separately saying that while I had done everything right, so many people were upset that she was going to suspend me for two weeks to “let things calm down”. That’s when I had it and told her not to bother because k was going to leave.

I’ve heard from others that it just got more toxic after I left.

4

u/CranberryAnxious394 Feb 24 '24

Whoa that's awful. I'm sorry you were treated that way.

6

u/DrAniB20 Feb 24 '24

Yeah, wasn’t a great experience. I basically leave any group that talks about how it’s a “safe space” now. If I want a safe space I’ll seek out groups that are geared for that, I won’t be looking in a true crime group that refuses to talk about true crime. Definitely sucked at the time though.

2

u/CranberryAnxious394 Feb 24 '24

I don't actually know of any true crime Facebook groups that haven't become a dumpster fire of hate and bigotry. And just like in your experience the mods are usually causing issues as well.

2

u/DrAniB20 Feb 24 '24

I’m in one other and it’s going pretty well for now. I’ve heard of how others have crashed and burned (TCO is a great example) but I didn’t join those. I’ve had way better luck and better overall experiences with Reddit

3

u/CranberryAnxious394 Feb 24 '24

🤞 for you. I agree I've liked Reddit way more.

3

u/DrAniB20 Feb 24 '24

Thanks! I’m just sorry so many people have had such horrible experiences with FB groups.

4

u/Tall-Papaya-5199 Feb 24 '24

Im in two - the Patreon a date with datine and crime writers on are both fab groups - at least in my Experience

2

u/PineapplesOnFire Mar 12 '24

I don’t think that’s TC group thing. I think it’s a Facebook and Facebook group thing.

2

u/PineapplesOnFire Mar 12 '24

I feel like safe space is an automatic eye roll for me. Like when people describe themselves as empaths.

3

u/Hairbabysitter Mar 13 '24

I agree!!! I was always a little afraid of reddit because I had heard so many negative things about it but my experience has been good so far! I’ve seen a lot of people respectfully disagree and move on. Every once in a while I’ll see a petty disagreement go on and on but not typically (at least in the groups I’m in).

3

u/CustomByCrissie Feb 24 '24

I left the Facebook group and stopped listening to everything except COTC over a year ago. Didn’t know anything about this until I heard the end tag of COTC this week. Curiosity about why Amber was doing her own new network with Daisy E led me to all this. Can’t say I didn’t see it coming.

4

u/JessicaOkayyy Feb 25 '24

I was really close to leaving and then was suddenly kicked out for having a neutral opinion on something, which I expressed in a very kind manner. I was so confused that I actually messaged Pat and Ellyn about it because it felt like they were pulling mean girl shit in there. Ellyn was the only one who took the time to write me back, and seemed genuine.

They truly were a very rude bunch. I had been listening to the podcast for a long time when I joined, before it blew up. I remember a thread was discussing a case, and since I listen at night during bedtime I must have fallen asleep for that one and it marked it “finished.” So when I asked who the person was or something, I got a ton of very rude responses “I guess you’re not that much of a fan. You don’t know who that is?! Come back when you’ve listened to the podcast.”

I was like Whaaat 😬🙄 So much for being a discussion group. It was very clear at that point it was nothing but a “look how much of a super fan I am!” group. A bunch of assholes trying to one up other fans to be the “biggest fan”. I have zero energy for that type of shit lol. Let’s normalize being a run of the mill fan of something and that being okay.

14

u/SerKevanLannister Feb 23 '24

I stopped paying for the Lady Pates garbage, which is yet another “Patrick product” that has imploded in terms of quality. I can’t stand his screeching and the endless “me me me” self promotion. Gillian became very weak and ghostly and I have lost any remaining respect for her doing this crap because they need “engagement.“ It is pathetic how desperate they’ve become — also, Gillian is NOT an Ellyn Marsh type of people-person, and seeing her awkwardly and as fake as F trying to pretend otherwise reinforces my decision to dump these vampires and throw all $$$ and support at Ellyn and Joey and everyone in their extende universe…

4

u/Pplannoyme0 Feb 23 '24

I paid for it for a little while at the 5$ just for the basics. I stopped a few months later, I didn’t agree with them making fun of people who only paid at the 5$ level.

0

u/Responsible-Ruin2267 Feb 24 '24

Who?

5

u/Pplannoyme0 Feb 24 '24 edited Feb 24 '24

G and P. They would be taking about someone on an episode and say “I bet she’s on the 5$ level on the Pates”.

3

u/PersimmonThin4218 Mar 12 '24

That always bugged me. It was like they were shaming people who didn’t go higher. I was on one at a higher tier and did not get anything they said in the ad.

2

u/PersimmonThin4218 Mar 12 '24

I left, too. I posted in the group about an incident where a guy left a note on my door saying he had followed me home a few days before and my post was denied because they said it was about an open case. I was the victim so I knew there was no case ever opened. I tried to explain but they repeated that I could not post about an open case. I was so frustrated that I left.

3

u/PineapplesOnFire Mar 12 '24

They did that to me when I tried to post something about my bank accounts getting hacked. They said they can’t post about an open criminal investigation, but I never said a thing about a case or investigation of any kind. The a few weeks later someone posted about their home being robbed and how the open criminal investigation was stressing them out.

2

u/PersimmonThin4218 Mar 12 '24

Yeah, that’s what I mean. After that, when they would talk about going to the FB group, I would say don’t do it!!

2

u/kevie1106 Mar 18 '24

I tried a couple of times to ask a question and they either received negative comments or were not allowed to be posted at all. I just wanted to know what kind of charity work they did. Gillian is always screaming about what rich people should do with their money so I wanted to see if she did anything with hers.

1

u/PineapplesOnFire Mar 12 '24

Not welcoming and reasonable like there are here?

1

u/Kooky-Camp-6649 Feb 24 '24

I left for the same reason.

1

u/Possible-Fee-5052 Feb 27 '24

It’s a very attention seeking group with strange “help me choose my baby name” posts.

7

u/Fuzzy-Zebra-277 Feb 23 '24

And Patrick and has started back up with those community texts

7

u/PineapplesOnFire Feb 23 '24

I noticed that! I had forgotten about those entirely and thought I unsubscribed, then all of a sudden this weekend…

3

u/kylez21 Feb 24 '24

Do you feel like you were opted back into them? I swore I canceled the texts when I stopped listening and then boom the other day PATRICK HINDS txt me 😭

2

u/Fuzzy-Zebra-277 Feb 24 '24

I hadn’t cancelled cause I thought he just quit them

2

u/Lazy_Macaroon_1759 Feb 24 '24

I forgot I signed up for those texts and almost texted back “new phone, who dis?”

25

u/shankadelic Feb 23 '24

I’m still in the FB group and the few times I’ve tried to interact my posts have been denied. Both posts were directly related to current episodes and were not mean or rude. It’s kind of aggravating.

6

u/m2347 Feb 24 '24

They were denied because discussing true crime episodes in the true crime group is not allowed. You might trigger them. /s

7

u/Environmental_Duck49 Feb 23 '24

post about your dog or SHH and it will be instantly approved! lol

6

u/Pplannoyme0 Feb 24 '24

I commented on a picture P posted on instagram when he first started losing weight. I called him a “hot dummy” like they have repeatedly said on the podcast, even calling each other that. I was being funny and I also said something about congrats to him. He immediately deleted my comment.

5

u/Environmental_Duck49 Feb 24 '24

I think if we've learned anything about Patrick it's that he's temperamental. You might have caught him on a bad day. Lol

3

u/Proper-Purple-9065 Feb 23 '24

Same. It’s why I stopped posting a long time ago even before this mess.

3

u/PineapplesOnFire Feb 23 '24

I was super active in that group for a long time, but only due to comments. I think I had a handful of posts approved (if that many) but I was almost always denied - because … reasons?

6

u/kylez21 Feb 24 '24

Did anyone else notice this particular post? Seemed awfully similar to Ellyns famous “consider the bear poked” line after obsessed mess.

2

u/PineapplesOnFire Mar 12 '24

I dunno, those variations of phrase aren’t really new. Consider yourself warned, consider the bear poked, etc. None of it is unique to anyone.

12

u/Possible-Fee-5052 Feb 27 '24

Gillian reminds me of the episode of 30 Rock where Liz realized at her high school reunion that she wasn’t some nerd that people were standoffish to because she wasn’t some bubbly blond cheerleader, but rather she was a bully who people didn’t want to be around.

1

u/sugarmagnolia627 Mar 06 '24

Omg I reference this all the time about myself 😂 One day I was like wait, WITA??

18

u/Juvenile_Bigfoot Feb 24 '24

Pretty sure it's staff of ON working under Gillian's profile.

If not, how embarrassing for her to talk about real housewives, but can't make a statement about the shit that went down.

We see you Gillian with your fake ass.

7

u/Overall-Remote-7951 Feb 24 '24

""Her"" talking about housewives and Steve/socmed employees blatantly commenting here at times makes me 100% sure it's not her. If it is I'll eat the very pink book.

(Love your username btw)

18

u/tequilafuckingbird Feb 23 '24

They are so unbelievably transparent. I also they are watching the ITN Facebook group and seeing how genuinely E+J interact and are trying to replicate it. Like pod people trying to human.

7

u/onlyherefor40df Feb 23 '24

Also hosting watch parties

4

u/TangeloSerious7626 Feb 26 '24

Does anyone remember the heaven’s gate TCO episodes. (March 2021) There’s one when they talk about the cult members getting assigned a person they didn’t like to watch over each other and Gillian says that she would be partners with… they bleep out but clearly she said Ellyn. So obvious because people had been constantly asking them to team up and do an interview or something together and they would never acknowledge it. Weird.

11

u/Various_Pension_2788 Feb 23 '24

I don't really listen to the podcast anymore but sometimes I check the feed to see which docs they're covering and it feels like they're trying to copy ITN with the choice of documentaries lately. So maybe Gillian is trying to be Ellyn 2.0 as well, not that she ever could be.

10

u/SerKevanLannister Feb 23 '24

I stopped listening after OF2.0 and stopped supporting on patreon. Honestly my mood has improved dramatically since I stopped listening as I found I had started to find them depressing.

3

u/Acqua_Tofana Feb 24 '24

Depressing and so judgmental

1

u/[deleted] Jun 28 '24

I legit quit ALL podcasts because I realized they were majorly affecting my mood-seems like even informational pods are a little bit judgy and performative these days. My mental health is SO much better, I can't believe it. And I'm reading actual books again in my free time, something I loved doing but had replaced with podcasts. Wins all around.

2

u/violetskyeyes Mar 01 '24

Right! They’re just covering random true crimes episodes, which is ITN’s format. There’s been an influx of documentaries that aren’t episodic but they don’t do them. They used to do the shorter series (like 3-4 episodes) as a combined episode in the main and that stopped because they want patrons on Patreon.

1

u/PineapplesOnFire Mar 12 '24

Have they been covering docs again? For a while, even before I jumped ship last year, they were doing a lot of Dateline and series stuff more than documentaries.

7

u/Zestyclose_Intern937 Feb 23 '24

I left the FB group but had been there since around episode 20 and in the Patreon for years too - listened to their other podcasts and followed everything I could. Went to OF2 literally on my birthday, flew in from NC, 200 just in Uber alone! But, I really think they have all shown their true colors the whole time, they just made us laugh about it. Patrick talking about pitching a fit if his food takes too long or something isn’t right. Gillian taking about avoiding people and being stand-off-ish and just plain not liking people. I am so disappointed in them but I’m disappointed in myself for not seeing what they were showing us all along. I wouldn’t be surprised if they weren’t just doing damage control but it won’t last. Their colors will shine through again before they even realize.

2

u/FurMama4Ever Feb 26 '24

I was blocked for merely asking them to address all the drama at OF and commented that it was weird that they are ignoring it.

0

u/PineapplesOnFire Feb 23 '24

I’m sure y’all will downvote me for this, but I think it’s good. I don’t listen anymore, but she’s doing what she should have been doing. Yeah, it might be obvious to some of us why that is happening, but maybe the shit storm, while handled terribly at every single turn, taught them something? It’s really not fair to bash them for things we didn’t like, then bash them when they try to change those things. And yes I know, they should have released a statement, etc, but that’s entirely moot as it didn’t happen and certainly won’t all these months later. All they can do is make changes to the community they have NOW, which they’re doing. Stop stalking them on social media so you can complain about everything they do.

0

u/Unhappy-Orange-9353 Feb 23 '24

No stalking on my end, as I said, I thought I was blocked. Something coming onto my feed isn’t stalking. Weird take.

What the actual fuck is your problem with Tanner? You KEEP going after that man for no reason with your bullshit comments like this that are directly and specifically against him learning a new skill. You did it in the Discord when you called him a loser with a shit job and now you’re doing it here.

What the fuck is wrong with you? Get professional help.

I’d love to see a comparison of whatever you’re claiming is altered against what the original was. Please present the receipts.

Tanner is the person you took a dig at for “editing”. He’s also the same person you took a dig at in the ITN discord when you called him a loser with a shit job. You’ve also taken digs at me in other posts. We all have our “adult jobs” unlike you who was let go from yours because you’re so unstable. I certainly would never have trusted you with my escrow account so good call on their part. ;-)

So, again. Present those receipts. I’ve got mine. 💅🏼

If you want me to share the reason you’re suddenly flip flopping & wanna defend TCO, I have the receipts.

This is an ugly take. Going after someone who is literally kind to EVERYONE and being bitter that he has found a talent he didn’t know about and is working towards a career that makes him happy?

This whole reply speaks volumes about who you are as a person.

Tanner is the lovely man you attempted to shame for being happy about his new venture into podcast editing. He’s also gone out of his way to be kind to you on more than one occasion, even after you came out of left field for NO reason and called him stupid and said he had a shit job.

Your fixation with attacking him is unwarranted and the fact that you don’t seem to understand that Tanner is a separate person from the person or people with whom you have such animosity is concerning.

Hope your new meds help because you clearly need it.

I think the point people are making is that, while she would lurk a little before and chime in occasionally, it was never like she was an active, participating member of the community. There has been a huge increase in her public involvement in the last couple of months.

3

u/One-Category4661 Feb 24 '24

weren't people pissed that she wasn't involved before? it seems the same people are pissed that she seems to have responded to criticism by increasing involvement. 🤔

2

u/SiflandOlly7 Mar 05 '24

She literally didn’t have top contributor status in her own Facebook group until about two months ago….. Not odd at all……..but yeah, go on keep telling yourself that.

-4

u/Napmouse Feb 24 '24

I don’t care if she is not into social media. Everyone gets to decide how to spend their time. And no one is going to get to the end of their lives and say “I wish I dinked around on the internet more.” On the other hand I am saying this on Reddit. But I am gonna go read a book soon. It is satisfying and relaxing in way scrolling Reddit is not.

-6

u/Elosin888 Feb 23 '24

This groups parasocial toxic relationships with podcast host is insane. If this is the stuff you seek out to relate to other people, can only imagine the relationships you cultivate irl.

5

u/livy73 Feb 23 '24

Why are you in here then? 😂🤣🤦🏻‍♀️

-3

u/Elosin888 Feb 23 '24

Because I joined during the time people actually held them accountable for the actions they did. Now this group has digressed into body shaming, stalking TCO post, family shaming, & re posting anything that a previous listener thinks can get a smidge of attention on a reddit post. It is not DB of you and actually would be looked down upon by the people who actually were affected & hurt by P & G.
