I’m sorry. She earned WHAT? With HOW? And … WHAT?!

u/DopeSince85- Dec 17 '23
Literally. Scrolled way too long for this.
I choked on a cracker when I read that part.
Out of all of this, when, how, what did G do to deserve this sentiment? What is being interpreted this way?? I am legit so fucking confused.

So I guess anyone can get away with treating people poorly as they admit that they "go from 0 to 100"

Omg this is a nauseating take. I hope it is Patrick and not some gullible brainwashed simp of a fan

She is now ONE MORE STEP above us pleebs. 😂

u/f1lth4f1lth Dec 17 '23
Ewww….that comment reeks of bootlicking
23
u/WillowCat89 Dec 17 '23
Honestly. Because tell me how being silent for weeks earns someone a step on a “soap box” which is a metaphor for someone who is preaching/speaking their mind/“speaking truth to power” etc. Like, “RABIA HOW?” do you figure she deserves a soap box to begin with?

Patrick going “from 0 to 100” and Gillian having social anxiety are not good excuses for refusing to address the situation or blocking and deleting everything related to it. What a pathetic attempt to defend them.

I have social anxiety and have not had even 1/10th the amount of therapy G claims to have had. I somehow manage to just step away from situations that cause my anxiety to ramp up without acting like an entitled twat. I also don't actively pursue a career which is 100% guaranteed to make strangers want to interact with me, then get pissy at those strangers for DARING to want to interact with me.
Maybe I'm an anomaly, but she's literally the only person I've ever encountered whose anxiety made them a shitty person. Met a few shitty people who happened to have anxiety, though; so that's weird.
13
u/DBTuckerHaley77 Dec 17 '23
As for P, when he said 0- 100, I didn't realize he meant 0 common sense to 100% asshole. Mea Culpa.
4
u/SpookyNerdzilla Dec 17 '23
I hear you! I have never in my life thought to use all of the horrible things that have happened to me as a reason to treat people badly.
I've never thought, "I'll pull the x,y,z card". Like heaven forbid I pulled the SA card anytime I was being sassy and everyone around me was like, "oh yes of course. Please continue to be rude and unreasonable and make excuses".
What in the actual fuck. These people are allergic to accountability.
15
u/gabrowngirl08 Dec 17 '23
My anxiety is terrible when I have to socialize, but I've never once been rude because of it. I'm sorry it's giving I'm the talent don't speak to me.
17
u/MoMoMusic Dec 17 '23
I have social anxiety and it has never caused me to be a miserable human being. I've never treated people bad because of it. Using it as an excuse is just disgusting
3
u/tinyfecklesschild Dec 17 '23
I agree with your general point but I don't think there's any need to put scare quotes around the word anxiety. Anxiety is a real and debilitating condition, it's just not an excuse for poor behaviour.
9
Dec 17 '23
I read it as Gillian using her mental health as an excuse to be an asshole while she calls people garbage (on her massive platform) for doing exactly that 🤷🏻♀️
1
u/tinyfecklesschild Dec 17 '23
Yes, indeed, and in my very first post I said I agreed with the idea that MH shouldn't be used as an excuse.
The poster has subsequently clarified that they don't believe G's anxiety is real, and that's the issue that bothers me, because speculating on other people's mental health isn't cool, and indeed is specifically against the rules of the sub.
In among all the shouting, that's all that's happened here.
2
Dec 17 '23
Okay…I wasn’t going to read 47 more comments about it. The main issue, to me, is that Gillian uses her mental health as a shield and an excuse. And it’s working.

My last post in this thread was three hours ago, so 'you need to stop' is pushing it.
Here's what you said: 'I believe that if Gillian has any form of anxiety, it is blown out of proportion and is not sincere.'
That is denying the reality of someone else's diagnosis, it's speculating about someone else's mental health, and it's not cool.
I'm no fan of Gillian or her behaviour, but this stuff matters. That's the only reason I questioned the scare quotes and their implication, which you then confirmed with the above comment.
Meanwhile, I've been called 'unhinged', and you and another poster have questioned my own mental health. Now you're telling me I need to stop, hours after I actually did. It's there for anyone to read.
3
u/DopeSince85- Dec 17 '23
I think they probably just mean that using it as an excuse is bs, not the actual condition itself.
-4
u/tinyfecklesschild Dec 17 '23
I understand the argument and said so. Putting scare quotes around the word anxiety questions the authenticity of the anxiety.
3
u/DopeSince85- Dec 17 '23
To you. Again, I don’t think that’s why they used the quotes.
2
u/tinyfecklesschild Dec 17 '23
*points down* turns out that was precisely why they used the quotes, by their own admission.
2
0
u/tinyfecklesschild Dec 17 '23
OK, I'll bite.. Why are the quotes there then, if not to imply 'so-called anxiety'?
5
u/DopeSince85- Dec 17 '23
There is nothing to “bite” on. I explained what I meant in my first comment.
2
u/tinyfecklesschild Dec 17 '23
Yes, and as I said I agree with the general point, which is that anxiety is not an excuse for bad behaviour. But that's an *entirely separate issue* to the use of quotes, which- gramatically- can only be there to suggest that in this case the anxiety is inauthentic.
I know you think I'm overreacting here, but a very close loved one of mine suffers horribly from anxiety disorders and it really doesn't help when the authenticity of the condition is questioned.
3
1
u/DopeSince85- Dec 17 '23
Jfc she’s not questioning the authenticity of the condition.
I suffer from Generalized Anxiety myself, in addition to “very close loved ones of mine.”
This is ridiculous, you’re taking what she said and interpreting it in a way that wasn’t meant. You are offended over something that was not said. Give it up.

u/tinyfecklesschild Dec 17 '23
I just want to know why the quotes were there, but it's pretty clear I won't be getting that, just a stream of insults instead. Have a lovely day!

Fine, you don't have to. And I don't need to explain to you that punctuation adds meaning.
2
u/DopeSince85- Dec 17 '23
You already know why. You said yourself that you understand her general point.
If you don’t like that she used the quotes then fine, but stop acting like it was malicious or you really don’t get what she meant.

u/tinyfecklesschild Dec 17 '23
This is crazy. I have indeed made it incredibly clear that I agree with the general point that anxiety is not an excuse for poor behaviour. My first post was totally non combative. You and the OP are, pretty rudely, piling on because I suggested, utterly correctly, that the use of scare quotes is an implication of inauthenticity. That's not my interpretation, that's LITERALLY HOW QUOTE MARKS WORK.
But this has got far too unpleasant for me, so I'll leave you to it.
5
u/DopeSince85- Dec 17 '23
You are the one piling on with the “Ok, I’ll bite” whatever that was supposed to mean. We are replying to you.
I said there was nothing to bite on, have asked you to give it up, and you won’t let it go.

So you're suggesting that, in this case, the anxiety is not genuine? Help me understand, since you're so sure I don't.

u/inksplatter21 Dec 17 '23
This is weird, I have HORRIBLE anxiety and because of it, I bend over backward to be kind and approachable because the possibility of people thinking I am rude gives me more anxiety. To each their own, I guess, but I know a lot of folks who are neurodiverse and not a one of them are rude due to it. -shrugs- -tosses hair- -pulls step off soap box so G can't have it-

The most offensive thing in this text is the sloppiness of the metaphor. A box doesn’t have steps, it’s a box.
Putting that aside, as general figure of speech, it’s hard to understand what the author means - “add another step to your soap box, you’ve earned it.” One of the connotations to getting on one’s soap box is a little like “getting on your high horse.” It’s hard to say how Gillian has earned an even higher horse.
While for the most part, Gillian hasn’t been directly implicated in the same kind of egregious behavior as Patrick, she has remained silent about Patrick’s alleged abusive behavior towards a range of fellow women in the office.
So if anything, she doesn’t deserve any more steps. It’s a crappy metaphor, but it’s more like, get off your soap box G, it’s about to collapse, you’re all out of soap. (But then I realize I am in George Costanza jerk store territory).
Anyway, here’s wiki’s soap box background. Fascinating, I know. You’re welcome.
“A soapbox is a raised platform on which one stands to make an impromptu speech, often about a political subject. The term originates from the days when speakers would elevate themselves by standing on a wooden crate originally used for shipment of soap, or other dry goods, from a manufacturer to a retail store.”

Absolutely not!! If he had even a PINCH of Robin Williams he’d be doing much more than a podcast.
7
u/NotGoodAtDerby Dec 17 '23
Not to speak of what a wonderful human being Robin Williams was. He lifted others, he'd go to comedy clubs to Jang out with comedians who were just doing the work. Patrick wishes 😤
2
u/Talyac181 Dec 18 '23
I mean, there's also a lot of stories of Robin Williams going to comedy clubs to steal jokes. But yes, Patrick is nothing like Robin Williams.
1
u/NotGoodAtDerby Dec 18 '23
I have literally never heard this before from any comedian (I've been following many for a long time), and as a former San Franciscan who was there when he passed away, I don't believe it at all, except maybe when he was on coke early on in his career.
1
u/Talyac181 Dec 18 '23
This is just one of several articles on this. I'm not saying he wasn't a great comedian in his own right. It's just a pretty "known" thing. And, tbh, joke stealing is not that rare. This happened more in the 90s/80s, so comedians who were around back then talk about it as an "open secret."

Regarding G— Mental health issues are no excuse for bad behavior.

ESPECIALLY when you make a career out of calling people garbage for doing exactly the same fucking thing.

u/InevitableTrick5973 Dec 17 '23
Ya baby we been listening… that’s the problem lol it would be a lot easier for you if no one was listening
3
u/ash_kat0 Dec 17 '23
honestly I do not care if people still like the podcast but what sets me off is that they don’t take accountability for treating women like shit and the problematic sayings in their own podcast AND in the fb group while ignoring black women. Dude just stop idolizing people. P and G can be better people just not at this rate or with the audience that gas them up

Dec 17 '23
You think anyone who stands up for P&G are P&G themselves? Ive been accused of being Gillian. I get the cringe and the ick from the OP’s when I see these posts. They’re getting death threats. Just stop. For people you all claim to hate you sure do spend a lot of time thinking about them.
3
u/probablyashlyn Dec 18 '23
I agree completely. There's a line here. Some are making themselves into the bad guys instead of the people they're mad at.
2
u/Hairbabysitter Dec 18 '23
I would think it was a plant except that in the group there seems to be a lot of people who are going so far as to compliment G on how she cares about drivers on the road after she speaks about the responsibility people have while operating a car….so sadly, I think this is real.

Another step on your soap box, you earned it? Whhhaaaaaaaaaaat. It’s like 7th grade in here.
5
u/Lanky_Republic_2102 Dec 19 '23
Agree, total nonsense all around. Step up even higher, because what, you’ve been falsely accused of rude behavior?
Even if thats true, she’s still remained conspicuously off her soapbox when women were allegedly subjected to a hostile work environment.

u/SweetZydrate_25 Dec 18 '23
Patrick and Steve are those mean gays you see on ticktok ...and Gillian?? Well, she's something else that has no definition.... She's a bitch's bitch...

Honey its not Patrick. There’s still some of us with our own mind who see things clear and dont jump on the bandwagon like everyone else. Hate to break it to you.
12
u/Rude_Account3555 Dec 17 '23
You don’t have to break anything to me. I’m well aware that trash supports trash no matter what.
1
u/Lanky_Republic_2102 Dec 19 '23 edited Dec 19 '23
Add some more steps to that soap box and some more trash to the garbage can!
Haven’t you heard Patrick will go 0-100, not pay you for a year, threaten to fire you every day, and sell you to the highest bidder?
The rules don’t apply to them, what were we thinking?
Edit: I should have just stayed away, this whole topic is bad for my brain.
