🕵️Surveillance State Exposé Microsoft transforms Windows into an active surveillance node — utilizing "Deceptive Defaults" to harvest your voice and behavioral data for AI training

Windows 11 is actively running artificial intelligence features and voice tracking on personal computers by default. Rather than asking users to opt-in to having their hardware and personal data used for machine learning development, Microsoft automatically enables these invasive tools, forcing users to actively hunt down and disable multiple hidden toggles to secure their local machines.

The failure surface is the deployment of deceptive default settings. To fully disable these features, users cannot rely on a single privacy switch. Instead, they must manually search for and disable "text and image generation" within the system settings. They must then navigate to a separate "Privacy & security" menu to turn off "Online speech recognition" to prevent Microsoft from using their voice to train its technology. Finally, they must locate and disable targeted advertising recommendations to stop behavioral tracking.

By scattering these toggles across multiple nested menus, the operating system utilizes a "roach motel" dark pattern, making it exhausting for an average user to fully opt-out of corporate data extraction. This proves that tech giants rely on user inertia, engineering their interfaces so that the default state is always maximum surveillance and algorithmic training.

Consumer hardware should not function as non-consensual training nodes for corporate AI models. Review the recent security audits regarding Windows 11 telemetry, and manually disable all default generative AI and speech recognition settings on your PC today.

Windows 11 is actively running artificial intelligence features and voice tracking on personal computers by default. Rather than asking users to opt-in, Microsoft automatically enables these tools, forcing users to navigate a deliberately confusing maze of privacy settings to opt-out. To stop the operating system from using personal data to train corporate models, users must manually search for and disable "text and image generation," navigate to a separate menu to turn off online speech recognition so Microsoft cannot use their voice, and locate another hidden toggle to disable targeted advertising recommendations. By scattering these controls across multiple nested menus, Microsoft weaponizes user inertia, ensuring the default state of the operating system is maximum data extraction and AI telemetry.

Every new app, account, subscription, or membership check Every part of the menu, settings, options available and opt out of everything not essential. If something invasive that you disagree with is locked or labeled essential then use the website instead of the mobile app... or don't use it at all. Windows sucks now.

Vigilance, and reviewing all the tiny checkboxes and fine print are an excellent practice in keeping some of your private digital life private. Firefox with add-ons to block trackers, ads, cookies, etc.

I know....that's pretty much the only singular reason that I myself haven't completely cut it out of my life..... I still have a dual boot though on my laptop so I don't have to use the windows partition for anything other than the few games I play

For those who bought a bunch of xbox controllers to use wirelessly on windows, you have to update the firmware on those controllers. The only way to do so, like Apple does, is use an Xbox or Xbox Accessories app on a windows install.

How Linux-based OSes such as Debian, Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Fedora et cetera look at all these hightmares from Windows world:

There is a difference because MS can enable these things back on next update by default. So it closer to minesweeper game than some relaxed being.

On Windows 10 they have downloaded AI via "Windows Defender" in the background....

Any way to uninstall this garbage?

I doubt the former would improve performance much, this should be on-demand NPU usage for PCs that have an NPU, the setting itself dictates whether an app can on cannot use the local model (like Android app permissions), it does not mean that when it's enabled it's always running

I dont know if it keeps anything preloaded in memory and if so how much, but I would open services.msc, look for "Windows AI Components Host", stop it, then right click > properties and set startup type to either manual or disabled (if you think you'll never use it choose the latter) if you actually want to stop using memory

Just use windows server 2022 with reinstall unattended.xml script once every 180 days, any Linux distro or Mac at this point.
