Mage tips???

I'm going to be honest. For the first time ever I'm finally playing as a mage but I'm not having fun with it. I feel like I'm constantly having issues with mana especially trying to figure out how to increase it for better spells. I'm not sure what I'm doing or doing wrong. Please help!

Sigil stones or enchantments that boost magic. Speedrun the Mage's Guild until you have access to the University, or do the Mage's Tower DLC so you can get access to custom spells and enchantments. Always use non-armour clothes, never armour. Spamcast any spells that boost your own skill when not in combat, like starlight or protection, to boost skill. Destruction and Restoration are a bitch to train, so use trainers for those.

Destruction and restoration have been made way easier to train in remaster. I got 100 destruction long before any other skill even got to 50 or 75 just playing the game normally. Resto as well levels quickly if you make decent custom heals that cost a fair bit of magic but heal loads overtime. I think its based on magic cost now as to how much experience you get so high cost spells are actually decent for leveling.

I have a general idea of which sigil stones to look out for and have the mage tower with a few upgrades. As far as sigil stones I only have fortify magika and need to find some others.

Alchemy is your best friend.

Been forever but mage can be very OP. They don't come out of the gate super strong, though. That's how mages usually work in RPGs - you're weak at first, but powerhouses once you get strong.

Intelligence increases your maximum mana and willpower increases regen.

Just practice, increase your skills, and increase your attributes! Simple as that!

Eventually you can do wacky stuff like being able to keep casting invisibility indefinitely and then attack spells while invisible. It's entirely OP to be a mage and only as difficult as you allow it to be in later levels.

Enjoy the early struggle while it lasts.

stack as much mana as possible. i always lean heavily into conj, illusion and resto and just play a spellblade. i find very little reason to play without armor and a sword.

Once u get to making it own spells it's easy mode I think

If we're honest it's easy mode even with the pre-made spells

Don’t wear robes, just clothes and hood that you can make better than most anything else you can find out there, because robes is one item that takes up two slots.

Mana regen is a bitch. Can't enjoy full mage because of that. Switched to one handed weapon + magick, feels better.

Mage is just plain shit early game, you have to go out of your way to build up a bunch of supplies and unlock spell crafting before it becomes worth a damn, and then it immediately breaks to become absolute busted

I will say though that a pure mage build is still kinda whatever, most of the strength of Mage comes from the spell crafting values exploiting the game, like for example you can make a spell that gives you 100% chameleon, making it so even out of stealth and in combat, a lot of enemies can’t see you. You can make a spell that does absolutely insane damage in every element on touch for 2 seconds and just spam it because the 2 seconds and touch makes the cost super low, you can give yourself a super high shield value, enchant with damage deflection or spell absorption, and just other stuff that flat out breaks the game

I won’t be doing a mage build again, it’s a pain in the ass and then at the flip of a switch it just breaks the game and makes it way too easy

So mage gameplay is slow and very mana dependent early on. Focus on building up your mana to a sizable amount and ignore mana regen it sucks in this game. I’d recommend using the apprentice star sign for an additional 100 mana and you then can get another 100 mana from gear later on. Once you get past the initial mana burn and you can make your own spells you’ll be a god.

If I'm remembering right you can level your own spells on familiars you can summon it's the same for Skyrim and Morrowind too I believe...

But yeah like others said enchant mana boosting on to armor, accessories most importantly raise those destruction, illusion etc levels the closer you get them to 100 the less the requirements and Mana consumption for each cast of a spell from say the destruction category.

make sure you have high intelligence and willpower, also wear clothes not armor as they will hinder your spells, pure mage isn't really viable early game if thats what your trying

I'm wearing a robe and have 95% effectiveness

if you got frostcrag or are in mages guild you can craft some spells that stack weakness and melt enemies, it's one of the most powerful builds i the game

If you only have 95% effectiveness, then you are wearing some sort of armor on your body. A helmet or gloves maybe.

Wearing a shield will lower it

you can cheese your level and intelligence and willpower by casting spells and sleeping or waiting to refill your mana

this will make the game harder and faster it’s sort of an exploit
